It's really simply the Bergmanns rule. The deer body size in the Midwest has little to do with abundance of crops, if the Midwest was 100% forest deer size would still be greater than those of the south. Canadian deer in non agricultural areas on average are much larger than those in the Midwest. In North Central Wisconsin our average doe is 100-120 and a mature buck (4yo) 180 -220 dressed weight.
Central Minnesota - I've had 2 deer weighed the last few years... 3 1/2 old 8 point that went 197lbs dressed. My doe was 118lbs dressed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Wisconsin.. I'd say and average doe 1.5-3.5 year old 100-115 dressed. Bucks dressed out 150-235. Biggest buck we've weighed was 238.
I live and hunt in NC and there are big deer here. Most people shoot smaller deer and never let them grow. Biggest buck I have killed weighed 212 lbs. Biggest doe weighed 155 lbs. Normally the bucks are between 140-170 lbs and the does are 110-130 lbs.
I hunt western Oklahoma and we kill bucks every year pushing past 200# our average does are somewhere around 100 to 130#
I am in New Hampshire, even though we have a low deer population we have large deer. Largest doe I have taken dressed at 170 and I have taken bucks that dressed over 200.
Where I hunt in northern MN mature bucks will commonly dress in the 170-200 lb range but they can get much bigger. I’ve killed a few in the 205-220 range and a friend of mine had one that went 240 a few years ago.
I was just thinking about several videos I have seen guys out east harvest and field dress a doe, pick it up and carry it out over their shoulder. Unless you kill a bamby in the midwest region there is no way. They are corn/bean fed and heavy!
New York is right in the middle. My buck was 5.5 last year and was 203 dressed and I killed 2 bow bucks this year and they were both about 165 dressed at 3.5yrs. our does are just under 100 at 1.5 a mature doe can get up to 130 140. Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
