I never had deer eat turnips this early. This is the 2nd year I planted a food plot here on this property. The first year I didnt have any turnips and a few radishes that got eaten late. I got all different sizes of turnips from golf ball up to big ol' ones.

Ya thanks!. I have about a acre here and I mixed it up in about 1/4 acre or less sections. Planted stuff at different times to cover my bases so to speak if we got a early frost. Frost usually happens mid-end of September, and this year we had one little frost, but not talking frost till next week!.

Ya This is the 2nd year of a plot here. Just weird to see the deer hitting the turnips this early by me. Cant complain as they must like them :)
I messed around with planting dates here.I only have a acre to work with just about. I planted a Antler King mix of radish/athena rape/buckwheat/peas and I mixed in some Honey Hole(brassicas/turnips). They got that 1/4 acre chowed down pretty darn good. Then a half acre of winter rye/peas/ and some brassicas. They hit the rye quick are in it alot, but the recent rains/warm weather the rye really took off.

Deer are like people, some like different flavors of food and some have to develop a taste for some things...aquired tastes. The first year and sometimes the second year, deer won't necessarily love them or hit them late due to lack of greenery. After that, look out though....they'll dive bomb them pretty fast.

Every night I can watch about 8 to 10 hit the field after dark (it's in my backyard). This is a new blend I am trying with 2 types of turinps, and forage radish. Deer seem to like it.

Backyard/front yard/side yard plots are awesome :) Keep us updated on the new blend you got going.

I have a brassica plot, and a clover plot in the back yard, and a cereal grain/red clover/radish plot on the north side of my yard. That plot is hidden by our Food Plot Screen. its funny when neighbors comment on how tall my corn is, and I just smile and explain what it really is. These nights when the moon is full makes for some fun deer watching out the windows.

^ I agree about the watching part.

I should try some of that Food Plot screen stuff you have next year. A friend of mine stopped up by you this summer to get some stuff (Larry/TrapperLM). I will see if he is getting some stuff from you next year and maybe I could save a little on shipping :).

After some lack of rain, some of the brassicas have rebounded. Camera is starting to show deer in them nightly, with a few hammering them in the mornings.

My experience is that once your deer learn to eat rape and turnips they will eat them any time that they are available. The strongest attraction is after they freeze but its a great year round food source. Antler King has the best blend around. Honey Hole @
