I'm gonna try and answer the original post the best I can, with scripture. I've highlighted all the scripture quotes in Bold lettering. I spent alot of time going over the difference between spiritual life and death (specifically death)in my post below. Forgive me for being lengthy.

First Point: Physical death vs Spiritual death

In the bible, it talks about two different types of death. Physical death and spiritual death. We all know what physical death is, so I need not go into detail there.

But spiritual death is different. The bible say that anyone who does not know God is already spiritually dead. Spiritual death is a separation from God. It isn't like a physical death where you just stop existing, but rather you are separated from the presence of God and sent to hell. Spiritual death comes through Adam from the very first sin. When Adam disobeyed God, and ate the forbidden fruit he brought death to all men.
Romans 5: 12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.

Now when God told Adam that he would die the day he ate of the fruit, he was not lying. He was referring to a spiritual death, a separation from God."but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

After this, Adam was removed from the presence of God and kicked out of the garden of Eden. For God cannot stand to be in the presence of sin.
Isaiah 59:2 But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.

Just to reinforce the idea of people being spiritually dead while physically alive, here are a few bible verses that show that.

Jesus said in Matthew 8:22 But Jesus said to him, "Follow Me, and let the dead bury their own dead"

And again Jesus said in John 5:24

“Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.

This verse shows us that we are dead until we believe in Jesus Christ. Once we put our faith and hope in him, our sins are forgiven, they no longer separate us from God. We are redeemed and reunited with him. This is a free gift that anyone can receive.

There are other verses that talk about anyone who does not believe in Jesus as being dead. Paul says in Ephesians 2 that we used to be dead, but are now alive in Christ. It is by grace through faith that we are made alive.

Eph 2:1-2 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience.

Eph 2: 4-5 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ —by grace you have been saved—

    Second Point: Spiritual life.

So I hope I was able to explain what spiritual death was, and where it is in scripture. Let me show you how the bible describes eternal life.

Life is described in the bible as knowing God, knowing Jesus Christ and believing in him. John 17:3 makes it plain
John 17:3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

    1 Corinthians 6:17
But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him

    John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he sent his only Son, that whosoever should believe in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.

    1 John 5:12

He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.

    Conclusion:

To summarize, spiritual life is to be in the presence of God, Spiritual death is a separation from God

I Hope you see why Jesus had to die now, that spiritual death I talked about leads to eternal damnation in the Lake of Fire. So yes, it is an "everlasting" time full of torment and punishment. But that is not what the bible calls life.

    Revelation 20:11-15
11Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. 12And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done.
13And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. 14Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Spiritual life it to know God, and be with him. Just as it was before in the Garden before Adam sinned. And the only way we can have that back is if we believe in his Son Jesus Christ. Only then can we have life in him and be spared from that eternal death and destruction

My favorite verses in all of scripture
Romans 10:9-10 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

Heres what I know, when I was 12 I was at my moms death bed. She had been very bad for weeks and then like she was never sick. She said and planned things, that I later realized was tidying up the end. Then she lapsed into semi coma. She knew no one. We left the hospital and half way home a officer stopped us and we went back.
Things were very bad and she suddenly opened her eyes and called my Father closer. She clearly said to him it is time for me to go now kiss me good bye. The moment he did they rushed us from the room to work on her. Back then they were mandated to work to the end.
My Grandmother was in after a heart attack and told me I just want to go home to die. They made her get a pace maker in her mid 90's. She told me she knew she had some place to go and would be OK. Well they brought her home and as my Aunt vacuumed around her she sat in a chair and quietly passed.
My niece 5yrs old drowned ,never recovered. My sister recounted a dream 2 days before of mom saying everything will be Ok.
So yep our energy does goes some where

really??? I think the exact opposite.
If there was no eternal reward for living a good life, then what purpose is there to live said good life? Seriously; if I didn't think there was a greater power than humans and no afterlife I would probably be a complete psychopath. Instant gratification would be the law of the land if the majority of people didn't believe in an afterlife based on merit.

I truly believe that when the scale tips in favor of atheists/non believers; society will be torn asunder forever. That's not to say that there aren't some decent human beings that are non-believers but society as a whole can't survive with a majority of them.

Through out history all " religions" have been designed by man to control the populace and steer them in one way or another. Spiritualism is different than religious ideology.

Yes. There are a lot of “Christians” who don’t have a spiritual bone in their body. They just go to church with their hands up in the air saying “praise God” after everything. One can be spiritual and not religious, but putting your spirituality in a religion is faith.

I have seen a few unexplainable things in my life that have made me think there is a god.

The one that comes to mind is my grandmother dying a few years ago. She was 92, had severe dementia, and was in care of hospice. My mother was by her bedside day and night, and was really taking it's toll on her. around 6:30 in the evening, I actually prayed and asked god to relieve her of her suffering and bring her up to him, so she could be with my grandfather. 20 minutes later I got a phone call from my mother saying my grandmother had passed at 6:35..........

I even posted about it on the forum. I can't explain it, I don't know!

I was just speaking philosophically. One life to live. Maybe we would value our own life and the lives of others more if we didnt believe in an after life.
