Atlas, can i ask you something, without having to sift through 9 pages of pissing match? Why are you so against scoring, especially when SOMEBODY else is doing it to their deer that they killed?
touche' Jeff Seems to me you didn't have a problem scoring till this thread though..or maybe i just haven't been paying attention on here....? (FYI, ive never scored a buck ive killed )
Ok guys you have me curious, If no one scored there Deer there would be no online contest, I mean what are we going to do determine what team has the best smile :D I know im just talking about a contest for fun, but thats what its all about FUN, start taking that away from me and im giving it up Life is about competition, its all around you in some form or another I personally love playing with the numbers. example, I found a shed today that went 46 6/8 with a snapped brow, given a brow would have put him at 50". I passed this buck up twice in the season and guessed him at 110" ---- 50+50+13 in spread put him at 113" I find that very intriging to be able to do that and have fun with it FOR ME. It is better than same scenero finding shed, and saying I remember that buck that I passed twice That is no fun to me its actually boring Its just numbers and a way for some to use to reference there deer. Im not ditching any one but dont understand why all the fuss about numbers. It is what is is, and im guessing it will be around for alooooong time
Nope. But it makes it a lot easier to answer when everyone asks me, "what does it score?" lol. And the scores are far from imaginary. Though they may seem unimaginable to you. All you have to do is stand by any booth at a trade show with a big buck and listen for 10 minutes. MOST guys walk up and ask about the score. Look, I couldnt care less if you score your deer or not. Makes no difference to me. But simply put, most guys that hunt deer at least have a grasp on what score is, which proves to me that there is interest. Just because you dont, doesnt mean you represent the masses. Find me a magazine article about a big buck that doesnt give his score. Apparently there is a lot of interest in score. Its not validation, its information.
Siman: You're living in an imaginary, dream world. I've faced numerous "hunters" who ridicule my hunting, based on the fact I haven't killed a deer that scores as high as theirs. Not "validation"? Please. Get real.
Jeff, what are you even talking about? When in this thread have i mentioned anything about a deer ive killed, or ridiculed your hunting....? I took fletch out of the qoute and made it stand alone, as my general agreement to this thread, not you.
You hunt it. You kill it. You score it. You enter it for all to enjoy. You do that, and you are welcome. It may take 3 yrs to draw is the only downside, but the deer and I will still be here God willing. Fletch
Really? What exactly are they comparing? Your not the kind of guy to sneak a peek at the fella at the next urinal are you Atlas? Intimidated? Does it really have to be an ego thing for you? Wow, thats too bad. Believe it or not, score does not equal machismo for everyone. Sorry you cant grasp that concept.
No. Fletch. Not "everyone". But, like I said.....it's not (that attitude) UNheard of (understatement). Sadly, that's more accurate than many want to give it credit for being.
If remotely accurate, I sure dont see it around here and have not experienced it elsewhere. Again, I have always given credit to my good success to the area I am fortunate to hunt. Large deer do nothing for the egos I am around and should be relative to the area you hunt. Consistent success on top end animals for the region is always my measuring stick for bowhunters.
