Ditto! I agree Germ, 99% that don't care about score have not killed a Buck worthy of being scored. I don't consider myself a Trophy hunter by any stretch but to say I didn't care about the score................................................

    Well that'd be a lie :)

There is always that 1% though

    LMAO!!

Same could be said said for IL in a way.

Gee maybe Corn is becoming a tourist attraction! ;)

I'm actually picking up a 3rd preference point for Iowa this year or a license. Hope that corn grows good.

Who's the arbiter of what is "score-worthy"?

And you wonder why people don't care about the score.

Because I was in a contest. Because I wanted to know. Because it was important to me (then).

Is it, now? No. Will I score another one? No. Do I think this outlook is indicative of the "avg" hunter? Yes.

The guy who shot the buck;) He's the only one who can decide if his/her buck is worthy to score.

My buddy has a 114'' buck on his wall shot in Atlanta MI. It has the CBM score sheet with the mount and signed.

114'' buck for that area is bigger than the norm. Like hunting, scoring is all about location also. A buck that scores well in the NLP in MI, is just an avg deer in SLP of MI.

The Average hunter that kills average to subaverage Bucks.

    What did it score?

Kind of proves my point ;)

    Nuf' Said :)

Dan...I've got a buddy I hunt with here a lot. He shot a buck this year that just fell short of the min. for our state bowhunter's assoc. "book". He was disappointed. He said he's really interested in shooting one that qualifies.

I've got 3 downstairs that qualify.....and I don't care a thing in the world about entering them.

You can make fun of my hunting all you want. It's attitudes like yours that make me want to have NOTHING to do with scoring my deer. If I shoot a bull Elk....he'll never be scored. Ditto a buck I may kill in IL.

And before you ask....I'm going to IL to hunt with a dear friend. Just happens to be where he'll be hunting. I'd hunt FL with him, too, if he asked.

Are talking entering in books or just scoring a buck? For the life of me I thought we were just talking about scoring a buck to see what he scores and when we tell people the gross score is prefered or net as the "norm"

Good Question! I have killed several that qualified for the IL state book as well as P&Y. I've never entered one. I never will, but like I've said before it's not because the score doesn't mean anything to me

If I didn't care about the score. I'd Never have measured them, and I wouldn't think anyone else would either ;)

I can guarantee you the overwhelming majority of archers around my area care about the score, but then maybe they aren't average.

So are golf and bowling.........I could tell you 100 stories about having an absolute blast with firends and family doing both and never even mention a score.

Maybe this year we could all nark out another kid somewhere and get his license revoked and maybe even accuse a few more people of cheating as well.

You're right...........keeping score in deer hunting is a great idea ;)

I think some of you guys are getting confused..........not caring about scoring does not equate to not enjoying seeing, hunting and shooting bucks.

Yet you have entered contest that keep score, which is it?

Golf is a great one Atlas to comapre. How many avg golfers can break 80? Not many for sure, but when they do they sure do let the world know;)

You had some good shots at some 130 deer in ILL, you passed and held out for a deer with a higher score:rolleyes:

I have a couple of questions for those of you that score the bucks you kill.

Why is it important to you that you score the antlers?

If you were the only one that would ever see or know about that buck, would you still score the antlers?

Bruce...It's the same acrossed the board. Do you keep score if golfing by yourself? Do you see how many balls you can run in pool? Ever challenge your own high score in a video game?

It's all just a barometer. A way of gauging your game.

I can understand those that don't want score thier deer, officially, but for most they still say a Big 8 Point or a basket rack..etc The score is a great identifier for phone, internet, and other conversations where your trying to discuss size.

Yeah (and I'm not arguing with you here), but in all those other things, the tangible result of the outcome can be highly dependent upon ME.

If I practice hard, I can shave strokes off my hcp.
If I shoot enough pool, I can get better at running the table.
If I practice video games, I can beat my personal best.

If I become the greatest hunter I can be (and the most sound whitetail hunter in the world).......it won't mean ****......'cause I live in Florida.

It was working, for a while!

    (take a joke);)
