Hey old bowhunter, new member here. Do any of you use decoys, montana or others ? If so, what is your set up techniques? Tree stand, ground blinds, scents, tips ,or wind considerations or whatever thanks
I don't use them, though I hear good things (I don't use them related to the cost, not the item itself). Most people I've talked to use tree stands, set up a decoy facing them at an angle, so when the buck comes in towards his head (because that's what they always do, granted deer never always do anything, but most times I would guess) he gives you a quartering away shot. Some use scents, some don't, all of them rattle grunt and bleet though. Maybe this can help some.
Thanks Vendetta, I was beginning to think either nobody used them, or nobody cared, as I went back a few pages, and found someone else who wanted to know , and got no responses. The reason I am tempted, is there is an area I am able to hunt with a small treeline overlooking a very big alphalfa field, and I wondered how do I get an animal to come over within bow range. A large weed field preceeds this field, the weeds are over my head and that field backs up to woods. I found about 3 strong runs coming out in the alphalfa, but they are at the closest 80yds from the treeline border. So, I had considered a decoy and ground blind with set-up according to wind directiojn, and hopin scent might get the nose when they exited the weeds. Does this hold water to anyone? Thanks for your reply though and info. Mike
