    Tips!

When, where, how? Have any luck?

Considering trying one this year, I always thought it would be fun!

Rut season only is when I use mine and I use a doe with doe in heat scent.

I have always heard a doe decoy on a field edge in the early season is a sure fire way to get a doe. My friend shot about a 140" deer last season using a decoy. Just on a cut bean field edge, he came out following a doe and saw the decoy and beelined for it. My friend shot him before he got close enough to plow the decoy over. I plan on using a decoy for most all of the rut this season.

I love using decoy's on field edges. It keeps the real deers eyes glued to something other than me and distracts them well. And yes it really works.

Some keys to using a decoy:
    1. Execute proper scent control on the decoy. I leave my decoy out in the field with a tarp over it during hunting season.
    2. Put the decoy somewhere where the deer can see them from a long way away. I have found if you put the deer in heavy cover and the deer gets too close to it before it sees the decoy it can (will) spook them.
    3. Bucks will typically approach a buck decoy from the front and a doe decoy from the back so keep that in mind to keep to make your shot easier.
    4. If you use the decoy on public land keep safety in mind. :ninja:
    Good luck.

Edit: I think anytime is a great time to use a decoy.
