^This^ is my approach on Property #2. On Property #1 I have at least 3 bucks I will shoot if they come in. There are not many does on this property and the Landowner wants deer taken out. When I travel out of town, I will be looking to shoot a Mature Buck.

Can't eat horn. Freezer first for me. Don't get me wrong if there's a big buck standing in front of me than I'll do my part but I'm not gonna pass up shot for a maybe. As the saying goes "A deer in the freezer is worth two in the woods"...... or something like that.

We always seem to have meat in the freezer from getting a doe or buck from the previous gun season or bow season. Its my dad, grandpa and myself so us getting 2 deer lasts us a long time. I personally don't care for venison steak that much so I like getting the sausages, hot dogs, bologna etc made. With that said, for the past how many years say 10 years I've literally was a horn hunter. I'm 33 years old and have only shot a couple deer with the bow but have had lots of different opportunites to shoot smaller bucks but I didn't. My goal really is to get something that scores 140+ and in the area I hunt we can get those but not loaded with them. 3 years ago was the most recent opportunity but I blew it and to this day it still bothers me and hurts because that deer suffered. This year I have my new bow as I have essentially started fresh this year. I don't just practicing a month before season now. I have been practicing all year long atleast 2 times a week. I am 100x better shot than a use to be and my killing range has gone out to 40 yards now. When I get that opportunity this year i'm going to make it count! I might lower my antler standards this year to a nice 8pt or bigger but i'll make that decision when it presents itself. My next bow buck will mean a lot to me as I've put in the time and have the passion and respect for this animal.

My only goal is to enjoy my time outdoors with friends. I don't have a target buck. If I get a good one that's great. If I kill a few does for the freezer I'm good with that too. Still, some of my best seasons have ended in tag soup.
