I'm still undecided, but I have until October 1st to make up my mind. Seems as though I change my mind every other day!
I have no clue...I have been scouting 3 times and so far I have seen nothing....it's still so hot here, the deer just have not been moving much..but I have an idea about a few spots...it won't be life or death either way for me, just the first day, I just want to sit in a tree and have some peace!!
Our season opens this Sat. Looks like the wind is going to be perfect for my early season public land hunt which is where I wanted to be anyway. I am hoping to pick off a doe or even get lucky with a buck before moving to the private land.
Looks like prevailing winds will be from the east so I am pretty much settled on where I'll be in the morning and then again in the afternoon.
Assuming on a SW wind ... yep ..... if NE, I have an alternate .. but that's in NY .... I'll be hunting PA first .... so ya gotta ask Mudshark
Honest...I have held no punches when speaking of how much this website, and YOU guys on HNI before have helped me. It is sim ply amazing the amoung of info that is on here. I spoke in depth with GregH about a spot I really liked last year and after describing it to him we agreed this was a good buck spot. After seeing ALOT of smaller deer I realized I was late getting there. I have a stand sitting on the side of a ridge waiting on the first few evening of this season...I think I am between the early season bedding area and where he (trailcam buck) wants to eat. My uncle called to confirm the trailcam buck (2nd ever daytime sighting) was feeding 25 yards from my stand on the edge of the ridge coming from where I thought I had finally pin pointed his bedroom. My uncle was 200 yards away standing on the basketball court and the deer did not know anything. Is it weird that I already feel a goal reached because I got on this deer, even though I have not got on this deer from the tree this year. I owe this to going into the assumed bedding area in March, and finding what I thought was there, big tracks, big rubs and a few big beds. Thanks fellas.....
If things progress as normal, I won't seriously consider where I am going until my drive over in the morning, then the wind direction when I step out the vehicle will make my final decision, along with my mood at the moment.
