Ok. I'm reasonably certain I'll be getting a Taurus 101B, in .40 caliber. Notice I said "reasonably certain?" Yeah, I may still end up with the Springfield XD....but anyway.... What ammo? Good lord there's more ammo choices than gun....I was looking at Hornady Critical Defense, 165 grain. But I am most definitely open to suggestions. Got any?
Depends on what you want the ammo to do. For defense the Critical Defense has great reviews. I'm probably going to switch over my 'defense' clip to the the Critical Defense from the current Rem. Golden Saber rounds. For killing paper, just about anything will do.
Kinda suprised you are going with the Taurus over the Springfield. But, I have limited experience with the Taurus line.
I use Extreme Shock Fang Face in my 40 Cal. They are not cheap. $100 for 50 but worth every penny http://www.extremeshockusa.com/cgis...1&ida=61&idp=14&his=0|14&cart_id=7147216.5428
Wow .... taurus huh? ... to each his own, I guess .... good pick with the .40 .... all sorts of good ammo ... reload your practice rounds ... and I always like the Hydro-shock for protection ....cost isnt a factor, as most of your shooting will be with the cheaper re-loaded ammo
One more thing to throw out there, the Glock 357 sig...a 40 cal necked down to a 9 mil...man that thing is smokin. I love it...but beware it is violent at the shot. You can carry the compact version on your side and not "print" so to speak. I would also throw out the 45 sub compact...even smaller with a double stacked mag. I guess you can tell where my alliegence lies. Good luck in whatever you end up with.
cant attest for the taurus semi auto line, the judge is a bad ass weapon though, 410 makes you feel it, and the revolvers arent badshooters.... not sure if you have checked into used guns but you can find nice barely used sigs and glock for 500ish winchester pdx1 165 hollow point, not overly expensive, $20-25 for 20 round but they shoot well from my experience in .40
Scott I'm not 100% on the Taurus yet, but I'm close. For this particular model, Taurus bought the patent previously owned by Beretta. It the exact same gun as the Beretta P100. They make a 9mm version, the 92, which was the Beretta P92. The Beretta is a sweet arse gun, and fits my hand great. But admitedly, I haven't had the Taurus in my hand yet so my decision may change, but not likely. And, working at the gun shop will once again afford some benefits. Such as, I get my stuff at cost.
in my opinion you get what you pay, guns, bows, mostly everything and i would spend the extra to get the best. if its gonna be shot alot id go big but if only holstering it and shooting here and there mite not be a bad gun, but i am not familar with the gun either
My only hangup is this.... Taurus has a past history of sub par perfomance. I would not want to trust my families well being to a piece that I do not have 100% confidence in. Could times have changed for Taurus? Perhaps, that I am not sure of.
Buy a Beretta then. Mine is dead sexy.. I can't hit the broadside of a barn with it... but it looks good!
Not familiar with the P101, however I do own a couple taurus. I know they get a bad rap, but the ones I own, have been nothing but reliable. Personally re: ammo they are all pretty good, Lotta marketing needed to make one stand out from the rest.
i had a taurus, actually quite nice, trigger action was smooth and very shootable... for the money, i'd buy it over a beretta almost every time.... personally i'm still a fan of the 1911 based handguns... so i'll take a 45 every time, just fun and ballsy all at once...
i agree with the ammo statement, long as you hit the SOB you should be ok.....taurus wheel guns are good guns, the best no. but they are a good price... i say if you are just gonna holster it to have in the gun shop or as a carry weapon check into a wheel gun if the pricery semi's are outta question. something like this would be good for concealment under a jacket http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...mage_result&resnum=4&ct=image&ved=0CBgQ9QEwAw on a serious note though, have you thought about revolvers in the .357 class?
It ain't about how good ya are....it's about how good you look doing it! That being the parameter, I'm thinking you've got nothing to worry about.
