I know I'm gonna order them here asap (Monday at latest). Decided after years of sweaty rubber booted feet I gotta try to stay dry and warm more.

I wear a 12-13 depending on the company but have always ordered the larger (13) whenever ordering boots for hunting. My question is who has got some and can you share your thoughts on whether getting the Wide kind or regular? My thought was wide may allow just a bit more sock room for crisper days...

I wear pronghorns and they have treated me very well. I wear a size 11 shoe, but buy those in 12's to allow extra room as I always wear wool socks.

I would say they run just a tad over true to size (in comparison to my shoe size). 11's just didn't allow the extra air space I wanted to keep my feet warm, so I get the 12's.

I had no need to get the wider size, had enough room upsizing to the 12s.

Well you have a monster foot... lol! Here is my take. At least for my feet. If I order a size up I can use medium weight wool sock and still have some wiggle room. I have to by a wide to use a heavy weight sock. I stopped buying wide because I am swimming in them with any but a heavy sock. My take on it is if it is that cold I am wearing pack boots.

Yeah...I've also thought of grabbing either Hot Mocs or those Artic Shield things. If it gets deathly cold....I typically can grab my dad's heater body suit because he hates hunting in that frigid of temps (diabetes has wrecked his circulation).

Will never buy a shoe or boot without being able to try them on.

While normally a full size larger is enough, as long as I can cinch the laces and get a tight fit with regular socks because I walk in them every day during the winter and having the extra wool sock would make my feet sweat something fierce. for hunting, I back the lower laces way off to help gain the space for wool, and tie the tops tight, which is why I like higher boots.

I have two pairs of Danner Pronghorns and wore Danner boots on duty for 25 years. I think they are the best boots on the market. You will love them.

I have been wearing this line of boots for probably 5 years. My feet never get cold enough that it is a problem in these boots with mid weight 90% merino socks, never overtighten the laces or you will lose air space.

Unless I get my feet wet as these boots are no longer waterproof if walking through standing water. They started leaking after 3 years.

Ever thought of re-treating them? I've never known how well the re-sealing products work though.

Appreciate the insight some of you have given though, I am leaning towards just getting 13s and not the wide.

Actually it was 4 years before they leaked, I was wrong. I stated wearing these for the fall of 2009. But, no I have never treated a pair of boots before. I bought another pair of these a few years ago because I liked them so much in the event they stopped making them... Haven't wore them yet though.

I like my Pronghorns just OK, IMO they sizing is a bit on the larger side. They certainly are not my favorite boots, my Asolo's take that award at the moment but they are alright. My sole just started to blow out on one of them and they aren't that old. Glued it back but still...... I have some Kenetreks in my cart right now, been debating all week on pulling the trigger. I wouldn't want to be walking terribly far in my Danners, just don't have the right fit for me.

I have also learned to go ALL leather, anything with the gore tex panels of whatever WILL leak in time! ALL leather and some Obenhaufs = waterproof!

8 inch definitely. I can use all the support for my ankles when walking with all the holes and uneven ground. Turned my ankles to many times over the years.

I agree with TJ. I stopped buying boots that are not all leather. I like the Proghorns but the Cabelas's Perfekt Hunters are the best boots I have ever bought. You certainly will pucker when buy them though. I even bought the Perfekt hikers for early season. Worst part is I catch myself wanting to wear them all winter long....

Lol yep, I have my Asolo's on right now at work sitting at my desk. Just sooo comfy! Looking forward to getting the Kenetreks in and breaking them in over the winter.

Sure now you come in after I've ordered bahaha! If I don't like them I read they will refund them instantly no question asked as long as I don't wear them at all other than trying them on. You say all leather....thought about that too as they had some but my feet gotta breathe cuz I sweat more than average I'd guess, any issues?

Which model Asolo's you like TJ? The Danner's will be if they fit me way better than any of the cheap Guide Gear brand rubber boots i've been wearing no question...but if what you and Heckler are saying is true and Asolo's are even that much better than the Pronghorns I could see them being my next purchase.

A quality all leather boot with the correct treatment will breath, maybe not quite as good as with the panels but they will!!

Think of it this way, if your boots are leaking a sweaty foot will be the least of your concerns. A lightweight merino liner sock with a midweight over will wick any sweat out to the boot keeping your foot at the skin pretty dry. After hiking 10 miles a day in CO with boots and gaiters that were SOAKED everyday all day my feet never once paid the price by being wet from outside moisture or sweat. Trust me I have been learning the hard way and finally took some smarter fellas advice and dropped the coin on quality items. I, and my feet, have never been happier!!!
