Yeah, kayak fishing has exploded down here recently. I bought mine back in college because it was a cheap way to get on the water, and I never saw anyone else in kayaks anywhere. I mostly got made fun of. Now? I usually see at least a few other kayakers, and the bass boat guys talk to me about how they are thinking about buying a kayak. Perhaps it is due to the price of gas? I'm not sure.
You're a trend setter. Biggest reason for using them around here, you can get places other boats can't. You can easily carry them a distance, throw them in anywhere. With the increase in stable fishing kayaks, they are becoming very popular among fly anglers. And they are inexpensive, when it comes to boats.
Kayak. Started fly-fishing from my angler this past spring and it's a blast. Warm water, cold water it doesn't matter. Sounds like you already made up your mind as well. The rifle and bow can come later. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I actually had intentions of buying the Jackson Coosa this past summer. I drove an hour North to demo one at a kayak rental shop. I was stoked. Loved everything about it from the lockable storage hatches, adjustable high/low seats, and some of the cool colors to choose from. I do a good bit of kayak fishing and also overnight camping trips so I figured this boat was money. I get on the water and less than 5 minutes I flip over. I was in like class negative 5 water (joke) but there was no current. Being accustomed to my ultra stable Native Ultimate, I figured I didn't need to tie anything down while in the Coosa. Well, big mistake. I was fishing around in the water for a good 30 minutes getting all my gear back. Yeah, I should have tied my stuff down especially in a new boat but didn't. How did this happen? Well, I had the seat in the high rise position and just turned my body ever so slightly to get my tackle when the flip occurred. Something I've done a million times in my Native. I'll also add that I've NEVER flipped while in my Ultimate. I believe the Ultimate IS the most stable fishing rig out there. Needless to say, I didn't want to purchase one anymore and fell back in love with my Native. The End.
That is a beautiful rig, Finch. I've looked at those as well, as a friend has the same rig. I get jealous each time he stands. I would definitely demo the Coosa before making any purchase.
Thanks and smart move on the demo. Maybe it was just a fluke for me. I mean I've watched the videos of those guys going through some pretty good rapids in that boat and not have any problems. They advertise doing 360 jumps in the Coosa...I think you could backflip in the Native. Good luck with your decision!
