New bow, new rifle, or new kayak. I can only buy one.

    Here are some facts:
    - I have a bow, albeit, an old bow, but I'm quite certain I can get my Dad's bow (new Browning) from him for about $100, if not free. He gave up bowhunting.
    - I have kayak, but it is a cheaper one, and I want a better one.
    - I do not own a rifle, however, I only rifle hunt when I am at my parent's property, and I can always bum a rifle off of my Dad. I've done this all my life.

    So, what should I buy?

Whichever you think you will do the most in the next year. Kayak, maybe?

At the moment, I use my kayak a lot.

I hope to get back in the woods for the late season though, and to start back into seriously bow hunting again next year.

If I had a rifle, I'm should I would rifle hunt around here as well though.

    Tough decisions.

Your Dad has a bow and rifle you can use but not a kayak. Unless you feel really bad using your dad's stuff then the decision would be easy for me, kayak. From the sounds of it you would get much more use out of a kayak purchase than any of the other two.

Kayak all the way. What make/models are you looking at?

I'm not even going to make a joke about your lack of hunting. I'm just not.

You can only buy one out of principle or because of the money?

If its the money, give up 2 nights out on your average bill and buy 2 or all 3! :tu:

LOL, that said I'd go with a Kayak of those choices. But if I wanted a bow very bad and it was only $100 it'd be a no brainer as well.

LOL... I'm with Trevor... With your dinner bill, you could eat at Wendy's Twice.... and you could buy all three... :D

Seriously, IF I didn't have a rifle, that's probably what I personally would go with... It's nice to just go out and relax in the woods with a rifle sometimes.

i mean this is BOWhunting.com if your serious about the art of deer hunting the obvious decision is the bow. so what you dont have a rifle. with a bow you get to hunt a longer season, in the best time of year, when the rut is on, and get the full experience of deer hunting.

I vote rifle. You can hunt with it at more places than just your parents. You don't want to have to bum a rifle for that(as you noted above). Rifles also hold their value much better than the other two. It is also the one thing out of the three that you don't have an acceptable version of. Plus you have a chance at an upgrade in the bow dept.

Thank you! I couldn't believe when I started reading the replies. Kayak? We're talking about Kayak? Put the dang little paddle away. Go get yourself a bow and get your arse back in the woods.

I guess you'd get the most use out of a kayak if you're into that sort of thing. :dan:

I spend very little money on rifle hunting anymore. It's a two week season that I only hunt if I don't punch a buck in archery. It'd be nice for you to have a rifle and then have it for a lifetime, but it wouldn't be a priority for me.

Buy the kayak now......eat a few less meals out and buy the bow in the spring.

I'm hearing lots good reviews for the Jackson Coosa.

And the reason I cannot get all 3 at the moment is, yes, because of money. I am in the middle of a kitchen re-model. I will get all 3 eventually, probably within a year or 2.

And for all that are bashing the rifle, here in LA, our rifle season is almost 3 months long. You only get 1 extra month for bow. I'm kinda leaning towards rifle.

But then again, I would love to be able to start next season with a new bow...

Same here. Kayaks are becoming more popular among fisherman, here. I hear the Coosa is pretty stable and easy to maneuver.
