I have noticed a weird phenomenon. It seems there are 2 things that people usually have string views on one way or another...politics and religion. It seems most people don't shy away from openly debating politics to others, either in person or on a platform such as this. But it seems most people really shy away from debating religion, like they are afraid or its "Taboo". My question is why? Most political debates I have been in result in me feeling like tearing my eyes out after words. most religion debates have been insightful, even if I didn't agree with a differing viewpoint.
Thing is I have never seen anyone convert a fellow debater especially online, it is all senseless arguing.
I think most folks religious views are deeply personal and since their doctrine, whether it be the bible, koran , tao te ching, ect.., a lot of its meaning is left up to an individuals interpretation. I rarely share my religious views, they are mine and mine alone. To quote Jimi Hendrix "I'm the one who has to die when I die, so let me live me life the way I want to."
I consider my self a Christian but I never have expressed my views/ opinions on it. Not knowledgeabe about the topic to debate it. Political debates just end up in a pissing match. That's best left for sota!
I have never heard Native Americans from other tribes argue about religion, they find other reasons to hate each other.
They are smart people. I've never felt that someone's differing religious belief was a reason to hate them either.
By and large, one's religion should not affect your fellow man. For the most part, organized religions teach us to love our neighbor, follow the Golden Rule, etc. Politics on the other hand, does affect our day to day and never actually teaches/breeds tolerance- quite the opposite. For some, politics is religion and/or vice versa. Which is why religious extremism + politics is so dangerous. Whether it be Islamism, Environmentalism, Progressiveism; or ultra right-wing Christianity- no zealotry should have a place in our government.
Some of the stuff is so irrational. Maroon 5 has decided to forgo a Super Bowl press conference in protest because of how the league has treated Kapernick. How do you logically debate with individuals like that, not even taking into consideration that they were not so offended that they turned down performing during the halftime show.
Best religious advice I have ever heard is, “preach the gospel always, if necessary use words.” Point being, if your faith is real, people will know it by the way you live. Incessantly talking about it will not change anyone’s mind if your actions are inconsistent with what you are saying. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
You married? Not that I am interested but to type that either you are single or the wife is not around.
The global warming/climate change debate. I think the climate scientists were jealous of the panic that the computer scientists caused with the Y2K crisis and decided hey we can fear monger better than that.
Having traveled a lot in my younger life, coming back to Oklahoma was a step back from I had grown accustomed to in Europe, Asia or the Northeast coast. Religion and politics have been blended together here and it's a freaking mess. People will vote against their own best social/political/monetary interests just to vote for a fool whose religious views line up with theirs, it's mind boggling. And any Oklahoma politician pushing the religion is the biggest crook/swindler/child molester you will ever meet, it's like shaking hands with the devil himself. Don't believe me, google Ralph Shortey, he was just one of eight of our wonderful representatives ousted from office that session.
This is a huge problem. I do not believe religion has any business being mixed up in politics in any fashion.
Nope, perpetually single. You think a wife would let me spend money on an old beat to hell 79 pickup as a toy? That's hilarious.
