The PKC World Championship of Coon Hunting is being held in my hometown this week. From an economic standpoint, its been good for local hotels and businesses. From a property owners standpoint, its been a nightmare of epic proportions.

Last night, I hear a vehicle stop in the road in front of my house. I look outside, and a truck with the tailgate down takes off. I assume tp'ers. Nope, coon hunters. A few minutes later, the hounds start howling and there are lights all over out in my woods. I grab a jacket and go outside to confront the a-holes. 3 guys from Tennessee on MY PROPERTY proceed to b*tch at ME about ruining their good time!! After arguing with them about tresspassing and running dogs on property I was going to hunt this morning, I had enough. I called the sheriffs department. No dice there, either. The dispatcher told me that they had over 40 complaints of coon hunters tresspassing last night alone and over 200 this week. Oh and only 2 deputies on patrol for the entire county.

The world championship runs until Sunday, and with the amount of money on the line, its probably only going to get worse. Any tips of keeping these guys off my ground?? Law enforcement is of no help.

Brandishing a weapon is usually a pretty good course of action.

IMO coon hunters are some of the biggest trespassers there are. Got a trail cam pic of a couple on my hunting land last year. Middle of the night, two guys with headlamps, dogs and guns running around the woods they have no persmission being in.

They were all packing, for some reason unknown to me. Coon season doesn't open here until next month, they can't shoot them. Even with my Chuck Norris like bad *** abilities, I don't like my odds against 3 guys carrying guns. :)

Walk out with a weapon on your hip and tell them, "get the f out of here".

Oh yeah, and continue to call in to the Sheriff's department. It is their job to handle it and if they are getting constantly harrased to do so, then they will forward on their complaints in the local gov't. Those are the real people that need to handle it.

I would flip out on those idiots. Especially if they thought they were the victims.

Oh trust me, I did. Talked to a neighbor down the road earlier this morning, he called the police Tuesday night as well. By the time they showed up, the hunters were long gone.

I'd confiscate their dogs. Tell them if they want them back, they need to come back with the sheriff and allow him to work it out with me. They do not have the right to come onto your property just because that's where there dogs are. Every coon hunter I've ever talked to feels that they have that right, and they are 100% wrong. They still have to have the landowners permission to retrieve their dogs.

The dogs got on my property because they dumped them off in front of my house. From what I've heard these dogs are worth, I think I'd get shot if I so much as touched one. It's a no win situation, short of mixing up a prestone/hotdog casserole and placing it in a few areas.

A lot of people like to paint with a 4" brush around here. I coon hunted for many years. I never once trespassed on purpose and I can say the same for many other hunters that I hunted with. Unfortunately, a dog can't read a plat book to figure out your boundary line and the odds of you calling of a dog that is working a track is slim to none. Your only option is to go get your dog. It sucks, but that is part of it.

Now what BBM is explaining is whole different subject. The hosting club is supposed to have a guide with every cast and it's the guides job to put the cast on land that he has permission to hunt. BBM, call the club and ask to speak with the master of hounds and explain what happened. He will then explain to all hunters at the opening of the night that they can and will be stratched for purposely trespassing.

Isn't it also illegal to tresspass wherever the hell you want? They aren't hunting, they are doing a dog competition. Again, the season on coons doesn't even start until November.

Isn't it illegal for them to run their dogs on land in which they do not have permission. Land owners have rights too. I know a lot of coon hunters, and can attest to the fact that they don't give a crap about property lines.

AGAIN, are they dumping their dogs out on land they do not have permission to hunt, or did the dogs end up there. Trust me....when I ran hounds I would've wished that the coon my dogs where running would have stopped at the nearest tree to the fence line. It doesn't happen folks.

I'm going to use the same paint brush you all are using. I think turkey hunters are the biggest trespassers there are. Turkey hunters don't give a crap about property lines.
