Does this seem reasonable to anyone else? How have you all handled situations dealing with poachers? A Trespassing Tax | The Thinking Woodsman
Perfectly reasonable to seize it, but I would leave a note stating it had been removed and tell them to call the local game warden to request its return.
Before taking something from ground you yourself don't own Find out who really owns the property your on. Good way to get your arse handed to you. Seen many times guys giving permission don't own the ground or know where the lines are in the first place. Let's say your wrong just once and there are four guys waiting at what's left of your truck? Let the landowner deal with his ground you have done your part by informing him.
It blows me away that people are dumb enough to trespass and then leave their gear there! If you're dumb enough to leave your gear at a spot you don't have permission to be then yeah, that's reasonable to keep it.
So makes perfect sence that you find a parked and locked truck it's yours right? The true landowner can call the law but that's it past that your done. too many guys willing to walk on a pc of ground without ever finding out who really owns it, and get legit and legal written permission to be there in the first place. I had some guys coming on me taking stuff down turns out they were someone's brother in law that was on the wrong ground to begin with. I don't know how many time I have caught guys fishing only to be told my niebor gave them permission... everyone is always willing to believe the first guy they run into owns the ground right. Do you homework.
I see it as trespassing and stealing. Not their land to be on/hunt on. Not your stuff to keep/give away. Both are not legal. Two wrongs dont make a right.
Good point Pitman. That's why I would recommend a note. I guess I should add that I think you should actually let the game warden know what is going on so if the owner of the equipment does call and can prove there is a legitimate reason for his equipment being there it can be returned. People do make mistakes and it seems the honest ones usually occur close to property lines. Its been my experience that when dealing with neighbors its best to give them the benefit of the doubt.
