OK so today my wife asks for a super nice and expensive set of pots and pans for christmas. She asked me what I wanted. I told her to put a down payment on a Hoyt Carbon Matrix and I would pay the rest of next year. She is no dummy when it comes to bows so she knew exactly how much it was. In order for me to get the Carbon Matrix (which is the bow of my dreams for many reasons) I had to promise her I would not buy a new bow for 10 years. I was going to buy the Hoyt Rampage XT next year anyways. At this time I am going ask that you all help me out on this one. What would you do, have her do the down payment on the Hoyt Carbon Matrix or pay almost all of the Hoyt Rampage XT and have the ability to trade when ever. When we make a deal we stick to it so its not one of those tell her what she wants to hear and reneg on it. Help me out guys what would you do?

Honestly I think that it is way to expensive. Have you shot the bowtech destroyer or invasion yet? How about pse evo or mathews z7. I would recommend you shoot them all before you decide.

I would get the cheaper bow and spend the rest of the money on a good stand and sticks....you know.....like Lone Wolf.

No way in hell I could go 10 years without picking up a new toy. Go with the more affordable option and have the ability to trade up later. They all kill deer just as dead.

I think I would lean towards getting the bow of my dreams. I am not someone who needs or wants the latest and greatest every year. A brand new bow would probably last me at least 10 years, especially if it had a great warranty.

I"m with most others here. I'd opt to get the "cheaper" bow and be able to trade up later. You and I both know what will happen. You get the "bow of your dreams" and then two years from now, the new "bow of your dreams" comes out. Hoyt, or whoever will come out with an all carbon/titanium, fire breathing, 8" brace height, 400fps, adjustable ATA, no cam timing needed, superbow.

Ya, I think someone is working on a bow like that as we speak.

ok stick i know Im going to get alot of **** for this one.
First I could never say I would not buy another bow over the next ten years so I would go cheaper.
Second I really like the element / matrix however I do not think I could really trust the brand new idea of a carbon frame on a bow. Thats a whole lot of power to hold in your hands and I know what carbon does when it fails. So it really scares the hell out of me to think waht would happen if the riser was defective or if I did something to it without knowing and it snapped while at full draw.
Also look at the pampered chef pots and pans they always have great deals on crap if she sells some stuff for them my wife sells thier stuff thru catalog orders and gets alot of stuff for free or half off.

I'd get the cheaper bow. I've shot the Carbon Matrix, and I still don't see how Hoyt justifies that price.

I would not go the expensive route. When I start thinking about money, I start thinking about how many out of state hunts can I go on and where. I guess I dont really have a bow of my dreams, I do have dream hunts I can think of.

I own the Rampage XT and honestly, for the price it's a steal. Shoots just as good as the Carbon Matrix, it's just a little heavier. Go ahead, do some research, you'll see that the Rampage XT is a great bow. Obviously, you know what I think you should do..lol

If my wife made me promise not to buy a new bow for 10 years I'd make her promise not to buy any shoes, purses or jeans for 10 years. The conversation would be over and I'd have my new bow.

    Man card revoked! :busted:

Stick, if you want the bow, buy it. No promises to anyone. Kiss your wife on the cheek and say thank you.

I bet if I decided to get back into compound hunting and wanted a new bow, I could buy a package deal (sight/rest, etc included) for $225 or less and have my bow up and running in under 1 hour. The deer would not even know the difference between that $225 bow and another $800 bow.

Completely agree about the Hoyt Rampage XT. More great bow for the price looks like the Martin Onza 3, PSE Brute, PSE Axe 7, etc.

I guess I will go with the Rampage XT. I know it is a fantastic bow and it has been the bow I have been looking at since January. I have shot many bows and this one just feels right. The Carbon Matrix feels so good in your hand though. I really don't or anyone else for that matter, need one in the first place. I just really want it. They both shoot the same speed and feel a lot alike. .2 pounds will not make up for the $600.00. Thanks guys for talking some sense im my head so to speak.

As far as buying her something different than what she wants goes, you haven't eaten my wifes cooking. She can have any thing she wants for the kitchen as long as she keeps cooking like she does now.

That was funny. Probably because we can all relate.
