Last morning of the season, I called an audible at 6:08 and marched up the "Killing Hill" to my "lucky tree." Sounds like a pretty safe audible, but it's been remarkably light on deer sightings this year. Had 4 doe and a 3 point roll through at daybreak and didn't like the shot op as my window needed trimmed and in the early fog I couldn't see a limb I knew was there. The 3 point was in and out of scrape for 20 minutes before I heard the sound of deer behind me. I wish I had just left my attention off of him as when I turned, the deer behind me noticed. If I hadn't been watching him so intently, I'd have been facing their way. As it turns out it was a doe, a small buck, and a shooter. My sole PA buck tag was punched in November, but I'd have liked to have gotten a better look at that guy. They hung out uphill in the fog and trees for 15 minutes to be joined by a smaller buck and then move off. Only ten short minutes from then, I had this mother and a button come from below. She passed through the same overgrown shot window only this time I could see the limb I needed to miss. The shot was slightly off the mark, but still good enough for me to put two mercy arrows in her. Gun or bow, I don't stop shooting until I know the animal is dead. My best deer year to date.
Awesome congrats! I was hoping to get out today as well but the construction on the pipeline is real heavy today and going to be working way past dark, so I had to back out. Sucks. Awesome to see a Pa guy end it strong though!
very cool, I froze my butt off all day and didn't see anything but some zombie squirrels called it quits when it started snowing
Thanks fellas. Had an uneventful last sit behind the camera with my father in law. Here's a pic before the fog overtook us. He's off to the left in his ladder stand that overlooks a turnip patch we planted at the end of a bean field.
