OK, first off, I know this stuff works. It killed the smell of cat s%$t, so I know it works. I have been using it for the last few seasons. I go thru A LOT of this stuff. I usually pay around $20 for a 32oz jug and just keep refilling my spray bottle. Now here is my gripe... After a while the stuff starts smelling like smoked meat. I kid you not. Has anyone else had this experience? I just do not see me spending $20 a pop to go in the woods smelling like jerky.

What is the best, longest lasting scent elim. spray you have used? Does anyone have a homebrew recipe that has proven effective. I am seriously thinking of going that route.

    Thanks

I have used the following homebrew the last 3 yrs or so. As far as its effectiveness goes, there was an incident with my dog and skunk LOL, he did not get a direct hit but he was "misted" heavily. I sprayed him down with the scentkiller, wiped him down and sprayed again and the skunk smell was gone. I was a little amazed to say the least. Does it work for deer, don't know but I'll probably use it in some fashion again (equipment mostly, stands, pack, etc.) along with a store bought solution.

    2 cups Hydrogen Peroxide
    2 cups distilled water
    1/4 cup baking soda
    1 Tablespoon scent killer shampoo

Mix it up and let sit without a tight seal for a few days, shaking and mixing a couple of times a day.

I think the dead down wind smell like smoked meat from the start...I won't use it anymore...Im thinking I like the wildlife reasearch scent eliminator better, I doubt I will even use earth scent this year, just want to smell like nothing....

I suspect the Whire Lightning product is very similar to the homebrew scent killer. The white residue is the baking soda. I've made the homebrew myself and it does seem to work well on most odors. It does leave that white residue!

I really like the Xscent Silver XP spray. Out of all the scent eliminators I've tried I like this one best.

I have use HS scent control products (scent control spray, body & hair soap, wipes, and clothes soaps) for about 20 years now and do not have any complaints. It just works. I also buy the big jug and can use what every I did not get used the following year hunting.

I have also use baking soda and water mix. This works very well too, but I did not like the fact that it would not stay mixed and it turned everything white.

I use the regular scent killer. I buy the gallon jugs. It has worked great for me and is 100% odorless to my nose.

Go to the sporting goods store... Get a bunch of different sprays take the cap off of them and smell them all. Scent Killer is the only one that is odorless to me.

A big benefit is it is way cheaper than DDW or any of the others.

I'm sure most scent killers on the market have almost the same results. It's all about marketing IMO.

I've used a similar potion for skunk smell on my dogs. It's truly like magic the way it takes away the smell.

    I use the HS Scent-Away.

Tyler dropped a bottle of Doe-in-heat in the office/hunting room and it broke. The wife thought we were going to have to pull the carpet it stunk so bad. Even after shampooing the carpet it stunk. I grab my bottle of scent away... gave it a very healthy dose... it killed the oder. It kills the horrid oder in my work boots. Good stuff !!

I don't use any of that stuff. Works for me. I practice common sense or is that common scents, LOL.

I'm also very happy with regular Scent Killer. I had DDW shampoo/body wash last year, and it had a very plastic-like smell. Not sure what their spray is like, however.
