It is that time again for the arrows and bullets to fly again! I have started this one instead of the one in the contest thread. I will start with saying that I want to wish everyone a great season and hope you have great luck. Here is the trail cam pictures and my waterfowl season so far and will continue with the rest of my hunting season!
Opening morning was a bust and did not make it out this afternoon. I did get another picture of my Freak. Still debating if I should let him walk or shoot him. I do like the FREAKS so this guy has been on my radar. What do you all think?
Well, I have vacated my post for a bit. My sister went up to heaven on 10-9-2017 and Grandma found out she has bone cancer on 10-12-2017 so it has been a busy month of October. I went out for my second time bowhunting on 10-29-2017. I got up in my stand and do my normal morning deal and that is say my prayers. I said my prayers then I talked to my sister. I told her that I have been really down and needed a lift up. I asked her to put a big buck in front of me. So I talked to her for a bit longer and then said that I would talk later. I saw three does and after another 2 hours I was debating about getting out of the stand. All of a sudden I spotted a doe to my left about 70 yards away. Next I saw a little yearling running around like he had bugs biting him. All of a sudden, jumping out from behind some cover was a very nice buck. The yearling was trying to get to the doe and the buck kept him at bay. I turned on my tactacam and started to get very excited. The doe started to walk my way. She walked right under my stand to where I could of spit on her if I wanted to. I just kept thinking to myself "don't smell my tracks coming to my stand and don't look up". She kept on walking! Here the buck came once he made sure the yearling was behind him. He walked up to about 28 yards from my stand and I did a soft grunt twice to get him to stop. I then shot a tad low but in the correct spot. The buck ran around the doe then cut her off looking back at her. The doe then squatted and started asking like she was going to bolt. She then turned around and started to walk back at me. I was thinking I was going to double up but then here the buck started to come back. I then let the doe walk again to put another arrow in the buck. The buck came back to within 20 yards and I shot him a second time. He took off running this time and then he stopped and stood in a spot for a few seconds. After that he went into a thicket out of sight. I waited for a bit then got down to find my arrow. I found a bunch of blood that looked like it was being poured out of a flower sprinkler from the first shot. I then found my second arrow and it had bubbles and gut fluid on it. The buck was quartering towards me so I think I got the one lung, liver, and/or gut. I then had a buddy come to help in the recovery after a few phone calls to some friends on advice. I then in turn called the land owner that the buck ran on and he advised me that I did not have permission to go find the deer for the next three hours. After that three hours then I could go on and get him. He stated that he is a hunter for many years and did not want the deer pushed or left for dead on his property. I guess he has had some hunters push deer into his fields and left for dead so he has made some stiff rules. I advised him I was going to give him that time anyway to make sure since this was the biggest buck I have ever shot. Knowing he had two arrows put through him I knew he was not alive any longer. I still did not want to take any chances or risks. My buddy and I started to track the blood after the wait and after a while we lost the blood. We then followed a few trails and then heard some crashing through the standing corn. Neither of us saw what it was. I told my buddy lets go back to the blood and start over. We went back and after about 20 yards found a single drop then after about another 20 yards the blood picked back up again. I know why it did too. That buck had to twist and turn in all sorts of ways to get through this thicket that he was in. There were certain points that we have to crawl on our hands and knees to follow the blood. After about 100 yards in this thicket with our cuts and scraps from thorn bushes we lost blood. As we stood there trying to find blood I noticed my buck that was only 10 feet away from us. It was really thick in there and glad we found him. I have two trail camera pictures of him and that is it. He is a new buck to this area and now he will be with me forever. Here he is with the trail cam pictures:
