Data Collection ... % of sightings this season

OK guys, I am curious ..how many sits / sightings of deer you have seen this year..

Our season just opened .... 3 sits / sightings 1 sit (6 deer last night's sit)

your info will be appreciated

 

I have my journal on my work computer (go figure), so I will have exact numbers tomorrow, but ballparking it, I would say I'm averaging about 5-6 deer per sit. Only blanked two sits so far. Best sit sighting wise, was 18 all together at one time.

 

Mine's easy.

3 sits / 3 deer

 

Dont have exact numbers...but,

at home- 4 sits. Lowest deer seen per sit 4 or 5(could be counting 1 doe twice) Highest deer seen per sit over 20. Generally I see about 10 deer. Not all in shoting range and not from the same stand.

 

4 sits, 3 doe seen on one of those sits.

 

maybe I should have said, " how many sits have you NOT seen deer"

so for me .. 2 out of 3 sits = no deer

 

5 sits, 24 deer.

1st sit PM: 1 button buck

2nd sit PM: 1 button buck and 1 doe fawn

3rd sit AM: 3 does, 3 doe fawns, 2 spikes, 1 button and 1 undetermined fawn

4th sit AM: 5 does, 1 forked spike and 1 undetermined fawn

5th sit AM: 1 doe fawn, 2 forks, 1 undetermined

 

4 sits, saw at least one every time.

 

My brother, who has hunted with me, has seen little bucks every sit .... so 3 sits ..all with sightings ...

my nephew - 4 sits .. only one with sightings

 

Only not seen deer, once (out of 3).

I've been as many as 8 (in a row), I think. Maybe more.

 

4 sits, 3 of those I was blanked. I am heading in with a unique East wind tomorrow to see if I can change those stats.

 

that shocks me, Jeff ... for some reason I assumed you could pretty much see deer everytime with the population the way it is down there ..

 

16 sits. I think I have been blanked 3 times. My log is on my work cpu.

On whities:

South Dakota...three sits and four deer (three bucks and one doe), One sit was deerless. I blew a chance on a 130 class ten pointer.

Nebraska...four sits and 48 deer (five confirmed bucks-one was a 170 class ten pointer at 12 yards). I killed two does-filling all my tags in the process.

 

9 sits

wheat field 5 sits - 27 deer 6 doe on 3 then same 6 came out tonight and three bucks followed right after

feeder 4 sits- 18 deer first sit (opening day) had 3 doe and next four were 5 doe same every time

 

6 sits, 3 without seeing deer

 

There is a drastic difference between Northern zone and Southern zone sightings for me.

Northern zone - 3 sits - 0 deer
Southern zone - 3 sits, 7 deer (5 of those were bucks)

 

how many of the SZ sits did you get blanked?

 

Sorry - 1 sit blanked (yesterday morning's wind storm).

 

I've been as many as 6 sits when I was trying to see ANY deer. Last couple seasons, there's been 2 forces at work:

1. I've tried to hunt only where I thought bucks were (during most of those blanks).
2. My continued presence (even though I 'thought' I was hunting smart) in some spots may have worked against me (quite likely).

My avg. sightings/sit have gone down every year, since I started hunting. I don't attribute that to a reduced herd. I attribute that to the deer knowing they're being hunted.....and my outlook of not being satisfied with only seeing "deer".
