Well shot my first deer on our land last night a nice doe. Was not 100% about the shot. Arrow ended up in the pond so I could not use that to determine how good of shot.
Saw decent but not conclusive blood.

Decided to give it till morning.

Found the deer but the yotes found it first about 100 yards from the POI.

Pretty bummed right now. Not the way I wanted my first deer on our hunting land to go.

Dang Brad! That stinks for sure, keep your head up, you still did the right thing backing out if your not confident in your shot placement.

    Do you use lighted nocks?

I feel bad for you man! Don't worry things will turn around!

On my doe last year my shot placement wasn't what I thought it was with my lighted nocks either. Granted, I watched her fall over, but upon inspection my arrow was back about 3 to 4 more inches then I really thought. Nothing is full proof. The lighted nocks are a good guide though.

Some coyote killing is in order :biggun:

Don't feel bad man - happens to the best of us. I shot a doe last year and the same thing happened. I was "pretty sure" of the hit, but not 100%. Tracked for a bit and decided to back out. By the time I got her the next morning there was nothing left. Sure is the circle of life in the whitetail woods.

Looks like you need to take out as many coyotes as possible.

    Keep your head up Brad.

    That sucks.

I gave a deer two hours once because I heard rustling where I last saw the deer. Turns out it was coyotes that started eating the buck as soon as it was down.

I am thinking about getting some equipment for some night time coyote removal. I am considering one of those laser genetics lights.

Anyway, I here that hunting over a fresh gut pile is one of the best ways to get them.

Sorry to hear that! It must be tough for you folks that hunt where there are a lot of coyotes. I mean, you don't want to push a deer but, geez, if the coyotes are eating them almost as soon as they hit the ground there just seems to zero margin for error. While I would like to hunt coyotes I will gladly pass on that to avoid the troubles you folks have.

Sorry Brad, that sucks. But it seems like you made the right decision. Eventhough it turned out like it did.

That's a bummer, Brad. Maybe you'll get to stick that songdog later in the season. ;)

Sucks to hear that man. I haven't had a run in with any yotes but I can imagine how you feel. Take out some of those dogs.
