Anybody own a pair? Opinion? Seriously considering a pair for CO Elk this fall...only negative marks on reviews I find are related to some water leaks - which is a MAJOR concern - but don't know if that's just the few that had problems complaining...or is that a known issue? Thanks!
Best pair of non-insulated boots I've owned. But after 4 years the gore tex leaks. I guess I got my moneies worth. I used them on my NM elk hunt back in 2005 and loved them. Great turkey boot too!
I have a pair & they get the most wear because they are so comfy. Not very waterproof at all, even from the start. But I've never owned a pair of gore-tex boots that were. I guess I got every lemon out there.
I used a pair of the desert version of the pronghorn extensively in the AZ mountains. While I can't comment on their ability to keep your feet dry, I can say that the boot gives excellent support for it's weight. This was always very important to me, I like a good sturdy boot that provides plenty of ankle support while walking on rocky and uneven terrain without being extremely heavy and laboring to hike in. It's definetely a good boot, I don't think you can go wrong with Danner's.
I bought a pair before last years hunt and was trying to break them in. They were fine except for one place. The little metal ""Gore-Tex" tag. It was right at my ankle bone and was very uncomfortable. I returned them. That's my only experience with them, and I was hoping they would work out. Try them out, they might be perfect for you.
Danners just don't fit my feet so I'll never own a pair no matter how good they are. As a side note; GoreTex will always break down in a boot and start to leak. I've never had any last more than a single season. If you need your feet to stay dry look into Danner Seal Skinz socks (not GoreTex socks!)
I've owned a pair for several years, now.....and I rarely wear them. They just don't fit my feet well. I wouldn't take 3 pairs of them for one pair of my Vasque Sundowners. I'll either get another pair of Vasques or a pair of Kenetrex for my upcoming elk trip. Never had a pair of Vasque's leak (been through 4 pr).
I have a pair of 1000 thinsulated Danner Pronghorns and I never wear them. I exclusively wore my mucks for hunting here in the Midwest. Mine are pretty heavy boots and when I did wear them in Colorado it was just for around camp.
Check Sportsman's guide....of you're a fan of these boots. I just noticed several models on sale, there.
The MOST comfortable boots I have ever worn straight out of the box, and the LEAKIEST gore-tex boots I have ever worn straight out of the box.
i bought a pair last month and love them. i bought the 200gr thinsulate. i have worn them in the snow and havent had any leak issues. dont know how they will do in the rain yet. i also bought a pair of irish setters by redwing in December, 400gr thinsulate and i like them just a little better comfort wise and they are water tight as i have worn them in the rain and snow and had no issues whatsoever. i hunted CO last sept and wore my justin work boots. i took 2 pairs with me and was drying a pair every night next to the fire. i aint goin thru that again. just like everyone should have a back up bow you should have a backup pair of boots as well in my opinion.
