You will not be held liable for any injury resulting from your comments/answers or opinions...I promise:d :d :d

First off yes, I still shoot aluminum arrows:deer: I love the XX78's that I have always shot. My question is, is it dangerous to shoot an aluminum arrow that has a crack in it? My field points have nicked the arrow and put a couple of hairline cracks/splits in it at some point. I don't know how long they have been there. I have heard and read stories of damaged carbon shafts "exploding", if you will, or shattering when shot but I don't recall ever hearing the same about aluminum? I have continued to practice with some over the years that have a dent but not a crack. Keep in mind I am not talking about hunting with them or shooting BH's.

    Your replies are greatly appreciated.

Besides being dangerous I would think the spine is affected greatly which would affect arrow flight. With all of the potential problems and no forseeable benefits, why shoot a damaged arrow?

Yea, you guys just confirmed what I was feeling already. Now I remember why I had stripped the fletching off this arrow back during season. I left it in my truck for some reason and when I grabbed some practice arrows that I was going to put some "shrink fletchs" on this past Sat. I accidently grabbed that 1 too. Just a wasted fletch:bash: Makes sense now why that arrow already had the fletching off...so I wouldn't accidently shoot it Thanks for the input.

I used to shoot cracked and dinged aluminums. My KE was just slightly above that of a tossed ping pong ball tho' so I didn't worry about them exploding or anything like that. Eventually they'd just get too squirrelly. I certainly wouldn't recommend somebody else do it. (I've done what you did, strip the feathers so you don't shoot it again just to refletch 'em later in brain cramp moment. But my feathers were cheap.) :D

While shooting techno hunt on Saturday one of my carbon arrows started acting weird. Upon inspection it looked to be bloated on side and crushed on the other. The best we could figure is that Kendall's arrow hit mine right as the arrows impacted the screen. (we get that every so often, sometimes there are sparks)

I pulled the nock right away so I wouldn't try to shoot it again.
