just wanted to say congrats to dale Earnhardt jr. on an awesome career. he will be retiring at the end of this season. I am a Gordon fan but enjoyed watching jr as well. after this season nascar will be taking on a new challenge. replacing the most popular driver for fourteen years straight and a driver that sells 25% of the entire merchandise industry for the sport. going to interesting to say the least. so for now i'll watch the final races of the Earnhardt legacy to its entirety. bitter sweet for sure!

Do you think Jr. had a "hall of fame" career?
Do you think he'll even get in, or will he get in because name?
Is there some achievement he would get in on?

I like Jr. a lot, but this is something I've wondered about. I think he is a damn good racer, but he never won a championship in NASCAR.
The only way I could see him getting in would be on the "most popular driver" award. 14 consecutive years is pretty amazing. People love the guy.

Yeah, JR has not been dominant or even close, he was not the same after he changed numbers.

Jr, has been a great personality for the sport, but he has been overrated as a driver. NASCAR today has far more to do with the car under them, than with driving ability. Jr has always had the best equipment money could buy.

NASCAR was best in the 80's and 90's. When they still allowed innovation within the rules, when drivers had to drive because the cars didn't handle like they do today. If they want NASCAR to get better again, they need to upset today's drivers. Take away the tires and the down force. Make drivers have to decelerate and brake more in the corners and let horsepower and traction off the corner and power in passing come back.

    And:
take off restrictor plates and slow the car down a different way.
Stop this "chase" nonsense. Go back to the old way
Stop overtime and throwing yellows to make a close finish
Stop trying to make it into a yuppie event

I'm sure I could think of more but I gave up on Nascar a long time ago.

Quick question,....... if nascar fans get married at the Talladega track and end up getting divorced at Bristol, are they still brother and sister?

Nascar is a joke anymore. This is why I spend every weekend at the dirt track. So glad that local dirt track racing is becoming the "new" racing.

I would not want to have to fight his wife/cousin sitting next to him either.

revamping the points system is what killed nascar. a champion is for the whole year not one race. I can't see it financially running at the level it is for much longer. at some point in the near future there will be a restructuring of some kind. pinky pony is right dirt track racing is becoming the place to be just like the old days.
