Got a new pse stinger about a month ago and tied my own d-loop on it. For the first week or so it stayed in place fine then after every shot it started to twist around the sting after every shot. I thought maybe I didnt tie it well so I took it off and re tied it and tried to get it as tight as I could. I put a needle nose between the string and loop and made shure to cinch it up good. It seemed to be ok for the first few times out and now it has started to twist again. I this normal? am I doing something wrong?
id be willing to bet the peep does the same thing, im having the same problem with a 2012 PSE brute X, my local pro shop says it the pse string, no serving where the string rolls on the wheel and continues to twist, he also said that mine should have quit by now and be "shot" in ive had my bow since the first of Feb., im starting to get really P.O.'ed , and tired of dealing with it, thought of a custom string, but not knowing exactly how long ill be keeping this bow.......
Make sure the knots are facing opposite directions. This is most commonly caused by knots that face the same way. If they face opposite direction they work against each other and aren't nearly as apt to spin. The needle nose pliers is a great way to cinch them down, D-loop pliers are even better if u have access to them.
There has been a few posts lately with string/peep problems on here. Like mobow said, check those knots to make sure they are opposite one another first. If they are, the second thing it could be is serving slippage underneath the loop. If you take the loop off and the servings look good, then my guess is its the strings themselves. They're creeping/settling on you. Poor quality or worn out strings will start doing this. You mentioned the bow is new, so I'd bet the strings are just poorly put together. I have no idea what quality of strings PSE puts on their bows but I'd bet not too good since you're the second or third guy with a PSE bow with string problems. I regard strings and cables as the most important thing you can put on a bow. They hold it together, keep it sync'd and in time and also keep your peep and loop settings in place. Poor quality strings will negate all of that.
IMO all new bows will have a break in period. So after a couple hundred shots your local pro shop should look at your bow and check it's time and cam lean. Most new bows come with pretty crappy strings to begin with so one way to avoid that is to by an after market string that is of good quality. But the first thing I would do is have it looked at where you bought it. they should have a free tune up for you after it's break in period.
I got my EVO 7 in mid feb i think and have put about 500+ arrows thru it and havent had a problem with peep sight twisting or d loop. Guess i got lucky or maybe with the pro line bow's the strings are better quality.
Yeah the strings PSE installs on their pro series are top notch. Which is part of the added expense. Quality strings and cables aren't cheap. But to keep the price of the bow down they (and all now makers for that matter) use a lesser quality string and a break in period will definitely be needed. In this case though, since it's spinning on neat every shot, I highly suspect having the knots facing opposite directions will solve it. Unless the string is about to completely fail, this spinning wouldn't be realized every shot but would be a gradual process as the string stretches. After its finished stretching I've found that adding a twist or half twist to the string brings the peep right back around.
You can try leaving small tag ends from your loop's knots and serve them down. They will never spin again.
thanks for the idea everyone. I do have my knots facing opposite each other. I had to watch a few you tube vids and practice tying the knots for about an hout before I tried it on my bow string but the good news is now I could tie a dloop with my eyes closed :D I have not had any problem with the peep twisting yet. I only have maybe 100-150 shots on the bow so maybe ill try to let it break in. how many shots are average for a break in period? Muzzy man- if this problem does not go away I may just try that. thx
waxed my bow string the other day and rubbed the d-loop down real good and it seems to have stopped the twisting issue. it still turns a little but does not twist all around the string.
My alphamax wanted to do this so I took a small piece of serving material and ran it through the d-loop knots and then sinched the knots. It never spun again. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
