I had my first d loop put on my bow yesterday when I got a new string. first question is are the knots suppose to be opposite of each other? . Second question is should my loop slide up and down the string? plus could someone post a link or tell me how to tie a nock?

This is what I use and it NEVER SLIPS! BCY Release Loop Rope 2mm (0.80") I get it from Lancaster Archery. Also keep in mind that what your center serving is made of should also be a quality material. It doesn't do any good to put quality loop material on a slippery weak center serving material. There are a few good center serving materials out there. Two of them are BCY No.62XS Braided Center Serving and BCY No.62 Braided Center Serving...You will have to determine the diameter. There is also a posting on here somewhere showing a picture of a properly tied loop on my bow with opposing knots. Some people use tied knots in between the loop to prevent pinching, but I have been shooting for years and never had a problem. The important thing is a proper knot and good material, and YES THE KNOTS SHOULD BE OPPOSITE OF EACH OTHER!!! The picture is posted under (glueing a d-loop).

well its a brand new string that I got yesterday and while I was at the pro shop the tech said he never had any trouble with the d loop material. I think i'm gonna take it off and fix it!

Was he using bcy # 24? You will get great satisfaction in working on your own rig. Learning to tie a nockset and a d loop is a good skill to have.

    Kudos...

...to Greg. That has got to be the best explanation of how to do that I have ever seen.

    Thanks for the link.

Take Ben's advice on buying your loop material and nock/peep tying material from Catherine ("Redhdcharm" on HNI & AT). I talked with her some last week, decided on a couple of different colors to try, placed my order on Tues. morning and got it Thurs. morning. She is GREAT!!!! Over 3' ( about 39") of rope for 2.99 and 18 colors to choose from. Thanks again Ben for letting me know about her!!

ok I tied a nockset above and below my arrows nock in the d loop and now I don't have any problems but I'm gonna order some good d loop material and redo my loop right! It sorta has a band-aid until I fix it proper

Spot on. I suggested that she start a thread here in the classifieds so that we aren't refering people to the other sites, I think she will soon. She is a great business person and an awesome individual.

    Well documented post!
I found out that leaving no slack in tying the second knot is vitally important in not having an eight foot long loop. I use a brass nock set below the arrow's nock with nothing above but the D-loop knot.
I have also found waxing the D-loop material (BCY wax) before beginning the process helps set the knots when pulling.
Great job on the photos too!
