my d loop came with the bow from the factory. I've put about 200-300 arrows through and its starting to fray. is this normal or is it just cheap material. or could it be my release?

When you wax your string, do you wax the D-loops as well? I do and my d-loop doesn't fray as much.

It normal. After a lot of shooting your D-loop will wear out and you will need to replace it. Your local pro shop can do it in about 5 minutes, or even you could learn to do it. I just don't trust myself enough as this is where all the weight is pulled back, so I just take it to my shop.

You shouldn't see much if any wear after only 2-300 shots. I would guess your release is causing the issue.

    The loop doesn't need wax.

Post a picture of the wear if you can. As tfox said, it shouldn't need to be waxed.

It should not fray. I think it is a release issue too. What release are you using? I had the same issue a couple years ago. It was the release.

theres a picture of it, I have been waxing it even though it doesn't need it, like I said it only has about 300 shots on it. this seems abnormal to me, even if it is the cheap one that came with the bow. my release is a cobra el cheapo. Is there any good material to get these made from?

Most shops will use a certain type of string for making the d loops from. I just had to replace mine 2 days ago but i probably had a little over 2000 shots off of it using a Tru Fire release. It sounds like it most likely is your release. Either way most shops will throw a new d loop on for $5 or free depending on how much you go there.

BCY 24 is the best material for a D loop, it's sold on line and shops .....runs about a dollar a foot... Pre stretch it and learn how to tie you own
Also you may need to check your release for burs and polish it out.

Mine has around 300 or so shots and it still looks new. That does seem to be a release problem.

When you get some new D-loop string, wax it up good and then get the blowdryer on to it so all the wax melts through all the fibres, This is what I do and my D-loops hold up great for ages.

It's probably worth replacing it ASAP, drawing back 70lbs and having the loop break and putting your fist through your mouth does not make archery to fun lol ;)

I had a release a few years ago that was eating d-loops, had a bur on the edge, sanding it smooth corrected the problem.

If you have a cobra release that is normal, because the release cuts apart the strands in the release. I know because it happened to me. I burnt the strands until i replace it. Just make sure to not burn your bow string.
