very much this... I doubt I could do much over 15 over a SHORT distance... the IM bike portion is 112miles, if anyone I personally knew could average 20mph for 100 miles they'd get my respect... that is a monster feat... much less doing it after swimming 3 miles in the ocean...

I had a computer on my bike. I could easily ride 25mph for short distances.
Nowhere did I say I did this for long periods of time or up hills. My average speed for the 18 miles was much less. (hills, intersections and whatnot) But on flat areas, with no cars, I went about 20 mph. The whole ride was only 18 miles, that's not a long ride. (when I was a kid we'd do 40 mile bike trips.. those took awhile)
I did have some killer hills to contend with. Not particularly long but very, very steep. On those I maintained enough forward momentum only to keep from tipping over.

But hey, don't believe me. Whatever.

Nope, don't hate cyclists... I just hate it when they get ganged up on a two lane roads and don't move. I hate it when they roll through stop signs on section roads in the country with low visibility, etc.

Bikes have their place (to me) that is not on a highway with no shoulder.

I like wyoming... it's too cold for bikes 7 months of the year. And people here that ride bikes, ride mountain bikes... in the mountains not on the roads.

Chuck Norris is the only man to ride his bike around the world. He had to average 75 mph to keep from sinking over the oceans. Now THAT, is impressive.

I was just kidding Jeff. There are far more things that annoy me on the road (and in general) than a guy on a bike that thinks the roads were built for him to ride. I might give a look or throw an f bomb, but I assure you it won't ruin my day.

    I didn't say you couldn't get up to 25mph.....I'm saying you can't avg. 25mph..

I'll hit 45mph on the road right in front of my house. I'll avg. 17-18mph on that loop. I ride with guys who race on specialize TT bikes.....and they'll avg. +/- 20mph on a 40K course, here. These are guys riding 150mi./wk..

25mph on a flat course (sustained) is humpin'.

As long as they don't get all pissy when I drive my truck on their bike trails, then we understand each other....:poke::lol:

But now I'm thinking maybe I missed my calling. I should have been a 'pro' cyclist. I always thought biking was easy.

Nobody really complains because they gotta do what they gotta do. Still, the more of a hurry you're in.. the more likely you'll come up on some sort of farm equipment that you can't pass. And you can't run them over like you can bicycles. :)

Sorry, Ultramax, I didn't think to take pictures. ;)

GMMAT, I have tiger blood and mercury DNA,

Steve, not sure where the guy was going with a planter. Maybe to get it worked on, or maybe he just wanted to back up traffic. (traffic.. hahahaha) Fields are a mess right now. Half frozen, half mud. But it must be getting close to Spring. There were chicks in the feed store today. Dang. I'm getting my chicks on the 17th and I thought that was early.
BTW, I think I should stop talking to you because I today I noticed my truck has a leak in a brake line. I blame you and your bad truck mojo. :D

My oldest son is a road race bicyclist. He is a Junior in High School and has already been offered $10,000 per year in scholarship money for college to race. He has won the junior rider of the year twice now for Iowa. He rides anytime the roads are not covered in ice and snow. He yields to traffic and rides smart but I constantly worry that some idiot with no patience and even fewer brains will seriously injure him or worse. Bikes have every right to the road and many riders have very good reason to be out there. Please be respectful of their rights. There will always be cyclists that use poor judgement, but it is no different than calling all hunters irresposible slobs because of the actions of a few. He leaves in a few days to go race in Belgium and absolutely loves it over there because the entire country is very bike friendly and safe.
