I'm shooting Piledrivers with my set up. The stock nocks "click" when I put them on the string. I'm told that they be to tight and I should be able to hold the bow, facing the ground , tap the string and the arrow should fall off. I do know some guys switch out the stock nocks for G nocks to help with this. Lastly, I'm thinking if the nock is too tight, it affects the tune. Thoughts?
Why would you want to do that? How hard would you have to "tap" the string. Sounds pretty unscientific. Just shoot... the arrows will come off just fine and you'll have one less needless thing to worry about. My.02
How do they tune??? I like a tight nock as I stalk hunt, and a tighter nock keeps my arrow on the string when I'm sneaking through brush and occasionally get the BH hung up on something..... If they tune well, then it's likely not really as much issue as you think it is.
I also am having this problem. I just got my bow back from getting restrung and my nocks fit a lot tighter then on my factory PSE string. I am going to shoot it a lot tmrw and see whats what, but my question is will this affect speed?
The correct answer was close to the one you were given. For arrows to tune to their potential, they must release quickly and clean from the string upon release. If nocks are too tight they will cause tuning and flight issues. Now, you should hear or feel a small "click" when putting the arrow on the string, but like you stated, when you turn the bow towards the ground, and tap the string the arrows according to some should release from the string. I prefer the nocks to be slightly tighter than that. Last thing I want is to draw my bow during a hunt and have the arrow come off the string before intended. I use this method: put the arrow onto the string (feel the click) with slight pressure the arrow should release from the string. If it doesn't and seems to take a little more force, I change the nock, or use a small pc. of sandpaper and lightly sand the inside of the nock to desired tightness. Hope this helps!
Wow then mine are way to tight. Mine need a good firm pull to release from the string. The proshop that installed my new octane string must have put to much serving on it because the string that was replaced did not have this issue at all. Thanks for the info
It might be worth mentioning that the new serving should get a little compressed the more you use it. I noticed everything was tighter on my new string but was thinking it might improve as I nock and shoot 100s arrows.
