My wife heard about a CWD deer found in a Preserve three miles from the house. My old hunting spot known as the Raceway is but a few miles away. I know of a non typical that was around 240" that got hit by a car in this general area, there is also a possible walking world record within 5 miles of this location. Sadly it looks like they are going to do a mass killing to see how widespread it is.

I used to hunt across the street from Binnie. Bucks were pretty much nocturnal but there were some big ones in there.

It was just a matter of time before they found CWD there. They really ought to open those preserves to bowhunting.

Sorry to hear that man! I know who harvested one of the 2 deer that tested positive there in Kane County. I am also kind of dissappointed as I just got access to land just north of the "raceway" on the same side of 31. I asked the landowner after fishing in his private pond while deer after deer cut thru his estate sparking my interest. He told me "get rid of them, my wife's flowers never get to grow!!" How did you get access to hunt he "raceway"?

I harvested a 10 pointer in McHenry County not far from Marengo on the opening day of the 2009 gun season that tested postive. I have a pic of it (not a monster!!) in my album on this site. Not sure if the album has been approved yet by the moderators, though.

Sorry to hear about that Jason, I know there are alot of people upset with the whole DNR sharpshooting program here in northern Illinois, me included... I know things have to be done about CWD when found, but over the years or really last decade the deer populations across our northern counties have been hit hard with these shooting programs. I agree with christine, some of these forest preserves need to be opened up to the sportsman, why should we all have too suffer from not seeing any deer because other people can go shoot the crap out of them and take every big buck out of the herd, hmmm...hmmmm... insurance companies are paying these shooters off as well to settle for less insurance claims on hit deer. As much time as we spend on scouting, preparation money on equipment, lisence, bla..bla...bla, lets get a petition going around and see if we can't get some of these places open for bowhunters! It's discusting of the crap you here about and see with your eyes with sharpshooting practices.

I second your passion on this subject Hoyt! Last year in my hunting locations around the Marengo area was ridiculous. Not one deer even seen during bow season since the sharpshooters were on 2 adjacent properties in February of 2010. Very little sign...

Very sorry to hear that. One doe was found to have CWD here in SE MN. They shot over 1000 deer in an area they said had 2000 deer. After all of the testing they did not find any more deer infected. You would think that after a couple hundred they should have had enough info.

It sucks like you can't imagine, there was an 8 point buck shot during shotgun season very close to where I hunt now. I will be testing any deer we shoot out of there and will likely try to get out to some other areas this fall.

I would love it if the dang preserves would allow hunting, I have three within 5 minutes of my house. The recent elections yielded a yes vote to millions to secure more preserves, it is getting ridiculous around here:(

The sad fact is that CWD actually will stay infectous in soil indefinatly... Everywhere its ever been, it still is. They could kill every deer in the entire area and it would not solve the problem. As soon as new deer were brought in, they to could get CWD.
Its been out West for well over 40 years, it don't kill people, and it don't kill livestock... No need to kill the herd off... In Wisconsin its just the big excuse to kill the population down...
