That's what they say but let's face reality - the NFL is very offensive-minded. With the new rules this is even more true today than ever. In my recent memory more SuperBowls have been won by the offense than the defense - Santonio Holmes catch vs Arizona, Bouldin's TD last year, David Tyree's catch against New England, etc. Yes, Baltimore had a good defense last year but they won the NFC championship game on a bomb to Jacoby Jones and then SF scored 31 pts on that awesome defense. Without their offense and Joe Flacco putting up 34 points they don't' win. Brady - without question the most successful of your list but also hasn't won a SuperBowl in a decade. Manning - 1 SB ring Rodgers - 1 SB ring Brees - 1 SB ring Flacco - 1 SB ring
I think people are looking at how good he can be in coming years, not necessarily how good he was or is right now. It's a long shot, yes, but he also wouldn't be the first person to get paid big bucks and then flop. Happens all the time in pro sports.
What is more interesting is people that flop and then get paid big bucks (Tony Romo). Still trying to figure that one out too.
I honestly don't know too much about Cutler. He seems always hurt to me. Hasn't won anything. A bit of a head case? But I do hear "analyst" praise him in his abilities to play the position and make all the throws there are to make like the "elites" of the game. My question is.... who cares? What does it matter if you can throw a football at whatever trajectory you want through a football sized hole at 70 yards? It's a result oriented business. Mcown came in and had that offense clicking. There are some athletes for whatever reason that can have all the ability in the world that will just never get it done. So the fact has been proven right in front of the Bears front office eyes that life can go on without Cutler. And they toss millions of dollars at him over 7 years? To me it doesnt seem like Cutler had that much leverage ... anywhere. But that's just me. Maybe his talent is THAT good... i dont' know.
All great points... Although, I am still trying to figure out how Flacco goes from 10 INT in 2012 to 22 in 2013. Hope it's not turning into Eli Manning syndrome.
