The two most popular are Rage and NAP Killzone. I have used both and they each have their strong points. Both come with a Practice Head that flies EXACTLY like the broadhead. The Practice heads are identical in size and shape and only differ from the broadheads in color and they have non-sharpened blades. This is a BIG PLUS because you no longer have to worry about tuning your broadheads to fly like your field points. First, The NAP Killzone COC works really well. They are well built and Very Sharp. KILLZONE.jpg There are no O-rings necessary. They use a spring clip. The blades are retained really well and will not deploy pre-maturely in the quiver or while you walk in the woods. It has a 2" cut diameter and leaves devastating blood trails. Blades are easier to sharpen and change if needed. Next, The Original Rage COC broadhead works well also. RAGE.jpg They too are very sharp. It has a 2"+ cutting diameter and leaves devastating blood trails as well. It changed the way a lot of people felt about expandable broadheads because of the rear deploying blades. More manufacturers have adopted this concept due to the Rage being such a hit. It has an O-ring and they would dry rot over time if left on for months on end. The blades are not as durable as the NAP and the allen head screw that is used to change the blades is a very poor design. However, Rage fixed the problem with the O-ring in 2012 by introducing the Shock Collar which works really well. Shock Collar.jpg It allows you to align the broadhead with your arrow and it limits the blades from deploying pre-maturely in the quiver or while transporting.
I have shot Rage broadheads since they hit the market and they have performed extremely well for me. If I had to give them a grade, I would give the Rage -A and the NAP A. The reason why? The Killzone corrected the problems that some complained about with the Rage. The Rage is the original Rear Deploying COC broadhead and when you are the first, there is always a learning curve and growing pains. Either broadhead will get the job done. Shoot them both and see which one you prefer. I hope this helps.

I bought a set of NAP Bloodrunner's after a friend recommended them. I made a pretty nice hole in a 140 lb Doe on 12/20/13 with one. A few bucks cheaper than the Rage and they left a nice trail for me.

Cut On Contact is all about the tip. From there you have mechanical or fixed.

I use Slick Trick Magnums currently but keep hoping to justify a purchase of single beveled Alaskan Bowhunting Broadheads but with the cost I keep going with STs....I have no doubts with my STs but I know for a fact the AB heads will blow through shoulders if I have the proper arrow and FOC

most think of cut on contact they aren't thinking of a sliver of thin metal screwed into a rage...

For example " Joe the brown bear guide say ..Jim make sure you have a good COC" ....he sure as hell isn't thinking a rage or kill zone or reaper with a screwed in little razor blade"

COC has long been defined and thought of as one of the primary blades being the first contact point of the broad head...

COC been a term used by used by bowhunters so we knew what were talking about when we described broadheads. Just because the marketing blood suckers at broadhead companies like rage and other use every word trick they can to boost sales from uninformed hunters doesn't mean we have follow suit.

I would not hesitate to use QAD Exodus, Tru-Fire T-1 or NAP Hellrazors.

I currently have Exodus in one quiver and T-1 in another.

I have always like Ben Pearson Deadheads. Too bad you can only get them on eBay now.

I would recommend G5 montechs. I will admit they do not leave the best blood trail but as good as they fly and as sharp as you can get them you wont have to track much if you do your job right. I would recommend the CS version though. this year I shot two deer with the same head and it is still good as new and will be on my number one arrow next year

Another vote for g5 montec. Flys great penetration is awesome. I'm over seeing these rage and killzone mechanical broad heads go about five inches into a deer and stop. Ok so they leave a big hole but I want a pass through not a gigantic hole and only one lung shot. God forbid you hit the shoulder with one of these. I've put a montec through both shoulders clean out the other side stuck into the ground 6". Solid one piece broad heads IMO are far superior and muzzy 3 blade if you wanna cheap out.

I've never had any issues with Pass throughs using Swhacker 100gr. 2" or 1.75". I even hit part of the shoulder upon entry on the 8 point I shot this year. I have to say one thing though...it was LOUD!....LOL. I do see what your saying with the open on contact heads though. I've seen a few not pass through...lose a lot of energy when those 2" blades open before the enter the deer. Thats why I love my Swhackers. 1" on entry and 2" + on exit.

I'm also thinking about the Montec you mention for a fixed blade this year. You like them better than the NAP Hellrazors?

I have not shot the Hellrazors but structurally they look so similar I would say either one would be great. Just bought the Montechs on sale before season and they performed flawless but NAP is just as good I'm sure. I will say this though about my buck I shot this year, first shot with the Montech was in the spine "mess up on my part" and when I cut him up the broad head was perfect and its still in use today.

I shoot a COC broadhead and my choice is the Magnus line of BH.
Fantastic flight and is pretty darn tough as well.
another + is I don't have to sharpen them my self all blades are replaceable.
