I’ve been wanting to get a custom hunting rifle for a couple years now and I’m finally going to just do it.

The issue I am having is the Savage 30 ‘06 I have used for about 15 years shoots perfectly and has killed everything I’ve ever sent a round at.

This isn’t something I NEED…….more of a want so I don’t think I need to spend $7,000 on the best of the best that will shoot sub MOA at 1,000 yards……but I’m not opposed to it.

Anyways……looking for experience with custom rifle makers and your thoughts on their products.

I started looking at custom rifle shops a few years ago when I decided to overhaul my very first deer rifle. What I learned is that there’s a lot of big name shops that cost crazy amounts of money and have ridiculous wait times, and then there’s also smaller shops that are just as good and have shorter wait times and much more reasonable pricing. Most of those smaller shops go off word-of-mouth and if you can get a referral from somebody that you trust, you can end up with just as good or better of a product.

I had a good buddy out in Wyoming (Dubbya on the forum) that had used a smaller shop called Omega Precision Firearms. Dustin had a couple rifles built, and also had several customers from his outfitting business that had experience with them. They did amazing work, turning my tired old Remington ADL 270 into a 280AI with a match grade Bartlein barrel and a bunch of extra goodies. They turned it around in less than two months and it’s now the most accurate rifle I’ve ever shot. I would highly recommend them.

Thanks man I will check them out. I go to the Great American Outdoors Show every year in Harrisburg PA and there are tons of custom rifle guys there but obviously I don’t know one from the other…….I’m sure they are probably all fine but I’ll most likely only ever do this once so I want to do it right.

Good to hear from you man……….we’ve been chasing bucks around on these boards for quite a few years lol
