For me printing is faster and actually readable to another person

I notice a lot of people write in sort of a combination print/cursive style

What next? Can we get any more lax when something as simple as reading and writing in cursive is deemed too difficult or time consuming.

I don't think the justification for not teaching it centers around it being too difficult or time consuming. If that was the case, there wouldn't be an INCREASE in AP and dual enrollment course offerings at the secondary level. Those courses are often very difficult and are quite time consuming :D

Oh boy, don't get me started on the SAT. That has become so far removed from what it was originally intended for, it's laughable. Not to mention the lack of correlation of score to college readiness or predictor of success. I'm living proof. I don't test well. I was ranked 10-14 throughout my high school class of 580+. I scored pretty low on my PSAT and SAT. In fact, I scored the lowest I think of my siblings. However, I had the highest GPA of all of them, and went on to graduate college with a 3.92 overall and 3.95 in my major.

I don't agree with "dumbing it down," but I truly find it humorous that many of the people all for SATs are adamantly against standardized testing :)

One thing (case specific? IDK) remembering back was penmanship. As a youth I had and practiced good penmanship and felt it important in the work assignments I was graded on as well as all the love letters I sent....

I can only wonder what complements kids are receiving now days...."Wow Johnny! Great job typing, spell checking, and copy pasting your assignment!" Or "Good work Tommy, your bubble sheet circling is superior to all others!"

Lower standards. Remember when schools came up with the idea that everyone is a winner and it didn't matter whether or not you got the right answer as long as you tried? Explains a lot of what we have today; a lot of people who don't try because they were taught that mediocrity and subpar performance was acceptable.

I'm pretty surprised by the overwhelming response of cursives importance on here.

Seems so trivial and a waste of time. Like an art major. Lol

Cursive is useless. They are better off learning how to type or run an excel file.

Why do some of you guys get so fired up about youth not knowing how to write curly letters?

I'm also blown away by this. It feels like some of these guys are creeping up on the "GET OFF MY DAMN LAWN!" age.

    Yes, this is it.

I would venture to say that 95% of business is done in text form today. Cursive is an outdated form of writing. It is not "lowering standards" or "dumbing down society" or any of that. It is simply evolving with today's world.

If cursive is that important to you or your child, then teach them. I would prefer my child to actually use their time in school to learn actual things of importance.

What might be your reasoning for people's egregious inability to spell words correctly? Is proper grammar no longer part of today's world either? Is this part of your evolving world reasoning?

I agree!! I guess a Signature will one day no longer be required. When they micro-chip all the idiots one day for safety reasons and to make sure everyone is ok and not a threat, then I guess no one will ever need a signature again. This World is Going To Hades QUICKLY!!

Don't know. People are dumb. This is not some new phenomenom.

I didn't realize anyone was advocating schools stop teaching proper grammar?
