So since the beginning of the 2009 season, I've been entering a bunch of data for each hunt I go on. With two full seasons of data I decided to run some numbers. Here's some of what I've found:

-I've logged 52 sits for a total of 195.5 hours in 2 yrs
    -I average 3.76 hrs/sit
-I log 4.34 hours for every deer sighted
-55.77% of my sits are deerless
-just under 18% of the deer I see are bucks
-I average 65.17 hours for every deer harvested
-for every 15 deer I see I shoot one
-it takes me between 17 & 18 sits to kill a deer
-79% of my hunts are evening hunts
-less than 4% are all day sits

While keeping a detailed journal is tedious, it's become habit. With enough data to crunch numbers now, I'm glad I've stuck with it and I will continue to do so.

So, how many of you guys & gals keep a data record? I'm using an Excel Sheet, what do you all use?

Ive got a hunting journal app on my phone that I just downloaded. It allows me to mark gps of tree stands and where Ive seen deer. When I log a deer sighting it will also log the date, time, temp, wind speed and direction, pressure and moon phase. I cant wait to buil up some data like you have and Ill be sure to share it when I do.

Yeah I have that one, but I don't really use it. I wish you could log more detail....

Have you used it in conjunction with the website? You can log a lot of details there that you cant on the phone. The reason Im fairly excited about it is the gps seems pretty accurate

Yeah I've looked at the site too. It's really nice, but I keep more detailed info in my journal. I can always retro input my stats into a sight like that if I wanted.

I've been logging for 4-5 years now. I started by just typing up a brief summary of that hunt's details in Microsoft word. For the past couple years, I've been using excel.

It's fun to go back and read what occurred each year.

I've been keeping a log since 2008. I need to switch to excel, but it's all in word for now. I record the time on stand, temp, wind direction/speed, number of deer sightings (yearlings, does, bucks), where they entered, the approximate time, where the exited, and the approximate time, plus a section for general comments.

Looks great. I might set something up like that here before the season. Very nice. What are you using for your temp readings in and out? Just weather on your phone?
