Everyone talks about taking the challenge out of archery by using a crossbow... Yet they are using a $1500 compound with every accessory possible over a recurve. Doesn't make sense to me.
Iv got nothing agains how ever anyone wants to hunt. I was talking about a lady calling my compound a crossbow. it takes alot more work to shoot a compound proficiently, and I made the statment because confusing the two minimizes the amount of work you seem to have to put in to shoot like i do.
iv shot recurve for years and years before switching to compound. and yes compound is easier. but i have also shot a crossbow. with archery equipment, it still takes a ton of work to shoot well. with a crossbow. it is like shooting a .22 with a milldot scope. anyone can pick it up and be proficient in a day or so.
Yeah, I agree, but to each their own. Who am I to say that crossbows are wrong? Are they archery? No, but my opinion is: If they bring out new hunters, or keep other hunters in the woods a bit longer, then they are a success for their specific purpose and audience. We are all hunters, and we are all the same. I have made my point on crossbows very clear in the past. while I know they are not archery, we as hunters need to stop vocalizing that. We are tearing parts of the hunting community apart because someone doesn't think they are archery? really? (Not you bryan, or anyone here). What about us as compound hunters with our 85% let-off? Technology has it's progression, and we cannot stop it. I just laugh when I hear compound shooters bashing crossbows. What if the traditional shooters said "because compounds have wheel's they are not archery"? I mean, if you really want to be the purist, shoot traditional.
Your New Years resolution is to shoot an 8" group at 100 yards... With a compound bow. Talk about taking the challenge out of archery. Using a 70lb bow with a 12" Bee Stinger, and 8" Bee Stinger Back Bar to stabilize that bow... And you have a problem with crossbows because? Not trying to start an argument and I'm not bashing you, just using examples. I really don't get why people bash them so badly. Willing to be that for every 1 idiot who picks up the crossbow ("because it's easier") there are 10 idiots walking into the woods with compounds.
The stock and scope and not having to draw on an animal eliminates some of the more challenging aspects of getting an accurate successful shot on a deer. The other point you brought up what does it matter what the bow cost? If I bought a $1500 recurve would that make a lesser or greater hunter?
The bars and DWI patrols love it. In the 22 years I have lived at my place the medivac has landed on the end of my driveway 4 or 5 times, 3 of those on Sundays involving drunk drivers. And rumor has it they were crossbow hunters.
So bars can be open but you can't buy booze yourself in a store and take home? This topic is wayyyyyyyyy more interesting than Xbows.
It also drives up meat raffle ticket sales, and the viking fans can have a group cry and talk about how they envy the Packers so much they hate them.
Get your head out of the sand, Sota. MDHA is backing full inclusion for the archery season. It's gonna happen if we don't voice our opinion at the state level. SCFox
