Actually, 5454 Pleasantview Road is Everything Archery. Ty, the guy who owns that shop is a great guy, but he didn't manage to correct my problem.

Avery Outdoors is on S. Cumberland. That's the one by the warehouses, and they do have a fantastic indoor range. They don't carry Bowtech, though.

If you hunt with crossbows, compound, recurve why does it matters? The only person that it seems to matter to is the anti-hunting crowd...

What we need to to do is stick together as hunters and fishermen. And let the tree huggers get splinters.

@ Little Chief I'm sure you've tried the Bass Pro in Memphis...And I can't wait till they open the new one in the Pyramid...

Legal in PA. I feel that you should only use a crossbow if you physically cannot use a bow.

People use compounds because they are to lazy to use a longbow or recurve.

    See how that works ;)

just a tidbit Cross bows have been around longer than any type of Gun. So I say yes to Xbow and Rifle hunters are cheaters!!!! :poke:

As stated, they will be allowed next season in Indiana. I used to have a real problem with them but not anymore. Last year my brother-in-law was forced to use one because of shoulder surgery. After seeing everything he had to do just to cock it and other issues, there is no advantage to it. You get one shot and that's it. I've missed with my compound before and ended up getting a second shot. It's no faster than his compound and thus you can't shoot rediculous distances. One thing I did like about it was it had a scope and that made things a little easier for these old eyes.

    Blessings........Pastorjim

I don't have a problem with the weapon. What I do have a problem with is the ignorance (and I don't mean that negatively towards anyone) of many who use a cross bow. It is a misconception (OP included) that these weapons are faster, more accurate and are effective in killing at much greater distances than a compound bow. With the exception of the PSE Tack 15 (and it is still up to the user on that one) there are not many out there that are any of the previously stated. You still have to judge distance and know your limits as an operator of the weapon. Most people (from my experiences) do not have a clue about any of that when they buy one and have no idea the importance of practicing with the xbow.

I used to have an issue with crossbows, many on this site have opened my eyes to crossbows. I no longer see a problem with them in any archery season. My father uses one because of bad shoulders, I try to help him site it in during the summers and absolutely hate shooting it. I'm sure part of that is having my thumb up one of the first times I shot it, that will ruin your day.

I couldn't agree more with this thinking Dan!

I have a close friend that is exactly the same as you described. He loves hunting and goes out all archery season. He also has no interest in tuning and practicing with his compound. Because of this he has wounded WAY too many deer the last 3 years. I would rather see him out with a crossbow where he can harvest the animal successfully.

Yea there's a guy the sit and spin at the archery shop I visit, that had his thumb up while shooting a crossbow. He now have to use a crossbow or rifle.

    The thumb was torn off.

I think the push behind the ideal of allowing the crossbows into the regular archery season and not just rifle season, is to recruit more people ,ie. women, children, folks like that into the great sport of hunting.

Fine with them being used by people for physical/health reasons or kids... Beyond that, don't believe they should be allowed during archery only seasons... IF they are, don't believe they should be allowed to use scopes....

Don't really buy into the people using crossbows would cut down on wounding animals theory though - at least not completely. I have an extended family member that has a son in law who hunts with a crossbow down south where they are from... We keep in touch a lot during the hunting season and its not uncommon to hear stories of unrecovered animals on long shots taken with the crossbow... Granted he's the type of person that would probably be taking longer shots than he should if he was using a bow too - but if it keeps those types out of the woods for a month or two, I won't loose any sleep over it...

I know hunters don't but if you are for them or against they are here to stay. Far as those long archery shots. Those shots are encouraged by hunting shows. My longest shot on a deer was about 100yds with a rifle with my crossbow 30. i believe shooting beyond that archery is hot dogging.

And hot dogging is what causes the problem. Considering were you're hunting here in Virginia, you've got trees, bushes, you'll be lucky to get an arrow through this crud. Idaho, and Indiana I'm not sure of the terrain, but if it's flat and open those longer shots will present themselves.

Again whatever weapon you decide to use just do it right.

NY just started to allow crossbows during our rifle season. I dont really like it but at the same time a lot of people dont like rifle hunting and i love that so who am i to tell someone that crossbows shouldn't be used. I dont think they should be allowed to be used during our archery season (except for LI) because i do believe that they are more like guns then bows.

Corssbows are legal in Arkansas during archery season, I could not imagine it any other way, because everyone cannot use a compound bow.

Having a xbow and a compound and a long bow, cross bows are not that much of an advantage, if at all. they are heavier, louder and big. heavier: they are 3-5 times the weight to carry out to the woods and get in your stand. Louder: can be heard a long ways off. Big: it is easy to hold a bow against you turning in a stand/blind/on a log, the crossbow sticks out no matter wich way you turn it. yes it shoots faster, longer range, maybe. I believe mine says 40 yds. you still have to compensate for arrow drop just as you do on a vertical bow.

I believe they do get hunters out there that cant bow hunt anymore, the reason i got mine (I am finally back to a compound).

Why do you use a compound? To lazy to use traditional? You see how this can just keep going?
