I know that, ultimately, this decision rests with "the powers that be" but I wonder if any of you may be able to tell me if im wasting my time before we go through all the hassle of getting my wife a cross bow hunting permit? She is right handed, and legally blind in her right eye, so obviously, the only way she can shoot a bow is if we buy her a left handed bow, which is not only hard to find, but even at low draw strength, she has a lot of trouble pulling it back and aiming (think of how hard it is to throw a baseball with your non-dominant hand) Do you guys think this is something they would consider? Or would they say "Just practice up with your left hand"? We live in Illinois
I helped several friends get them in Michigan for differnt reason and can't say if she could get one or not. Your best bet is to do some phone or internet time and find out what your State regs are. Also see if there is some sort of state organization to help you with it. Good luck.
Prime, I bet your wife would be granted a crossbow. I looked up the Illinois crossbow application and one of the criteria to obtain a crossbow permit is wether your wife is legally blind. Best of luck, I Hope the both of you enjoy the woods together. http://dnr.state.il.us/Law3/pdfs/CrossbowPermitApp.pdf
FWIW....there's a lot of vertical bow archers shooting RH who are left eye dominant. Not sure if this is an avenue she can or wants to go down. The Xbow shouldn't be hard to obtain (permit). Good luck.
