Now with the story. Got into my stand at about 3:15ish and it was 75f very sunny with no wind then at around 5:30 it when the shade came it cooled down quickly and got down to 68f. No movement at all. Then at about 6:15 I look to my left at the top of the ridge and a see a doe come from behind a tree. She was taking a couple of steps then eating, a couple more steps then eatinga bit more, at this point I was able to get my bow and draw ready. All she had to do was take the next couple of steps to be clear of the trees which felt like it was never going to happen. I had my 20yds pin on her and I let it go. She jumps and kicks and runs at me and stops 8yds from my tree looking around. At this point I could not see any blood or hole in her as she stood there broadside, Since I didn't see this I decided to get another arrow nocked. As I did this which took a long time due to her been so close I noticed she was what I can only describe as chocking. She did not eat or move for over 5mins. I was not sure If I hit her or not at this point since there still was no blood. So I decided to realease another arrow to either A kill her or B end her suffering from my 1st bad shot as I could tell something was not right with her. So I shot her again and she ran behind my treestand about 30yds. As before she stands there and looks around for a second then decided to bed down. At this point I knew I just at to sit and wait and it would be a quick recovery. She laid there looking around for a min then started to swig her head around like to had no control over it. She tried to get up and walk but clasped back down and then she rolled a few times down the hill and never moved again. When I got to her I looked at the holes and as you can see from the pic I did hit her both times but the 1st shot was a bit too far backwads. It would of killed her but I'm glad I took the 2nd shot to end the suffering. Now the bad news is I lost my 1st arrow and I realized this was most likely to happen when I set my stand there because the trail is at the top of a big drop off so my arrow is down there somewhere. I'm sure if I looked for a few hrs and go scratched up from all the growth down there I could find it but I guess it's just 1 of them things.

Good thing you got that second shot off. Otherwise chances are it would have been a long recovery or none at all. Again congrats. I am hoping to let an arrow fly in the AM.

Congrats on the doe !! Good job putting another arrow in her.

Now that Britney's Youth Season is done... we will be back to bow hunting as soon as I get a day off from harvest.

Good luck to everyone hunting... especially to the guys just getting to hunt now.

Well the morning was a bust, had 3-4 deer circle under my tree this morning before sun up, could barely make em out, could not tell if it was bucks or does, but guessing a doe or 2 and a couple fawns. Went and did a cam check, not looking to promising right now. Tiney showed up once but splitter didnt. Not getting many day time pictures at all. Think I'm gonna hunt the same stand I sat this morning, it has the most activity in the afternoons, and it is the spot where splitter has showed up the most. Getting some lunch and cooling off, plan to be back in the stand by 1. Good luck guys.

Afternoon did not go much better. Had a decent 8 come in at last light. I let him walk though. He will be a shooter in a year or two if he makes it, but knowing I got bigger deer roaming the woods, it would be hard to settle for 120s when I could maybe get one that goes 150s. Will be back out tomorrow, just trying to decide what stand to sit.

Well im gonna take tomorrow off and let it cool down. Supposed to be a little cooler next week, so I will get out for morning hunts on tuesday and wednesday, then depending on what shows up on cam, i will decide on the afternoon hunts. Good luck to any one heading out this week and weekend. Be safe and shoot straight.

One more day of work guys and I'll officially be off for 6 more days in a row. I've got company flying in Friday evening but should be able to sneak in my first official solo sit Friday morning. I can't wait to get after it!

Friday afternoon I've got a new muddy to hang over my food plot. The deer are really starting to hit it pretty regularly morning and evening and I'd like to get in their and at least roll some footage for my blog of deer eating the fresh green growth. There's a couple borderline 130-140" bucks in it at daylight as of last weeks card pulls that I'd like to see on the hoof and get a better look at. The two big 8's I posted on here a while back have been nowhere to be found in the last month. I'd love to connect with one early, but the family farm historically gets awesome the last week in October through November.

Good luck everyone! Hunt safe and shoot to kill!

I stayed out of the woods this afternoon, let the area cool off. I hit the target for a while with a buddy and did some fine tweaking. Did some new quickfletch twisters and now my toxics are flying phenomenaly. I may be getting a bunch of hunting time soon, I'm a federal employee and so far I'm safe but sounds like more cuts coming our way. So if I get furloughed I'll be in a tree every free minute.

Well hit the stand this evening but it was way to hot to see any good movement. Back out this weekend. Hopefully I can connect with a doe or nice buck soon

Well guys morning 1 for me was hot, windy, and only saw a small spike buck. Temps are supposed to drop 30-35 degrees tonight into the high 30's for Saturday morning. I'm thinking there's gonna be lil blood on an arrow by this time tomorrow.

On a positive note this was my first day out with a new muddy camera arm and manfrotto fluid head so I got good and comfortable with it. It's an awesome setup, now I just need a shooter in bow range! Good luck everyone!

Think I almost have my self talked into some afternoon sits this weekend. Cold front coming in, and with splitter not showing up for 2 weeks, he is due to show up again. It seems to be his pattern, he shows up for 2-3 days, and then disappears for 2 weeks. If I do hunt, I am on buck patrol only, does will get a pass until Tuesday, or Wednesday morning. It would just be a pain in the butt to deal with a doe then having to work the next day. But I will gladly do it for one of my shooter bucks.
