This morning was more of a scouting mission then a hunt. Well so I thought. I got almost to the area I wanted to setup on to scout when I ran into two bucks feeding. I put on a stalk and got within 40 yards of them. One was a short tined 6x6 and the other a tall, narrow 4x4. Both bucks should have gone around 130 - 135. Was hoping for better so I just watched them until they wandered off. Was fun stalking them though !!

I did see a good buck once I got to my spot. He is in a very hard spot to hunt. Just no way of getting in there without him knowing it.

The pm hunt with Britney was a bust other then having a doe come in. We couldn't hunt the buck from last night as the wind was wrong. The area we hunted this afternoon has two big slobs in it though but they were a no show. I think we were just too far from their bedding area and we need to push in harder on them. Tomorrow morning I am going to go for another morning scout and see If I can find a better spot to setup on them that is closer to the bedding area. Got my hill top all picked out. Will take the bow just in case something wanders my way.

All and all... it was a pretty good day.

Nice Tim! Send some of those 130's my way  Planned on going goose hunting for the opener today. Post office was closed ten minutes early Sat. and I didn't get a stamp. Just my luck. It was pretty crappy out anyway.

Checked cam this afternoon. Nothing but rabbits and crows.. Date was changed on both my cams. Second time it's seemed like someone had messed with them. Moved one to a swampy area with lots of sign. We'll see in a week or so.

Sorry I have not posted much, been busy at work, and been staying busy when I get home, trying to get in a little better shape before season so been eating right and going for some nightly runs and not sitting on my *** roaming the forums. TJ I am envious of you brother, I gotta wait till october 1st, and I am soooooo ready. I did get to do a little dove hunting this weekend though, well yesterday any one, only got 3. I'm a little rusty with the shot gun, first time I have been in 5 yrs. Was gonna go today, but my buddy had his daughter and no sooner then we got out there her mom called and wanted him to drive her home...

My dad checked the cam we have out back at home, had 20-30 different does an one spike. Same problem we've been having for years. Overpopulation on the island and one buck tag per year don't tend to go hand in hand. I do have some cool pics of some bears and a few cubs from last week if anyone wants to see though.

We had a doe by us tonight. I did see the buck from Saturday night come out of his bedding area again. Wind wasn't good so we had to setup farther away. Least we know he is still there.

I am back to work tomorrow so don't know when I will get out again. Hopefully next weekend.

Justin hopefully no one is messing with your cams and you gets some pictures in the new spot.

Wes the squeeters are horrid. I love hunting this early other then that. You know when a deer is near you. Instead of 100s of mosquitos bothering you... you have 1000s. Congrats on the doves !!

No big news today? Went out goose hunting this afternoon after I picked up my stamp. Didn't see a single one, guess they have been slowing down in the afternoons it the spot I went to but are still hammering it in the AM. On the bright side I didn't use any ammo, found out that ducks like to land in cow pastures, overcame my strange fear of cows (don't ask  ), and found out what it feels like to be zapped by about 12,000V electric barbed wire. Some of the luck I've been having, I swear..

Hey guys, it's been a while and I apologize for that! I checked some cams over the holiday weekend and no sign of that big 8 with g2 sticker I posted a while back. Some bucks are starting to get into hard horn tho, mainly spikes and a few three year olds are rubbing. I did get a promising text from the neighbor of a buck I named halo back when he was a 1.5 year old. He's now 3.5 and coming on strong. It'd be hard to pass him up. However, I'd love to see him as a 4 year old.

The rest of the weekend was spent over some wheat stubble hammering the dove. Shot my limit Sunday and Monday morning and ate very well Monday evening.

One downside was I learned that t-post are stronger than my skin and to not hop over one no matter how excited I am to retrieve a dove. Thankfully it's my non bow gripping hand and I should be healed up by the opener on the 16th.

Good luck TJF, sounds like you're on em already! Can't wait to see a pic of you behind that monster! I'll be expecting a BBD text. 806-220-9802, the rest of y'all great luck as the upcoming seasons get underway and feel free to text any harvests to that same number.

He is a pretty good buck Jeff. Would be tough passing on him. Congrats on the doves. Those t-posts are nasty. I've got a pretty good scare from one on my leg. It was bent over and hiding in the trail grass. Hopefully your hand heals fast.
