Don't know where your at , but in Missouri you have to have a physical ailment or a doctor's letter. Worth looking into the legality of it beforehand, other than that I've never used a crossbow so can't speak to it.

Crossbows take a lot of the challenge away that bow hunting offers. As far as what bow you should buy it should be what you feel most comfortable with. There are several great companies that all shoot a lil different i personally think ELITE makes one of the best shooting bows on the market

Try and find a high quality used one to see if bow hunting is for you. Mathews, PSE, Mission, they all make great equipment.

Even the so called "entry" level bows of today are light years ahead of bows years ago.
Pretty much all the major brands make a bow that will get you in the door and shooting for years to come, your just going to have to go shoot some and find out what you like.

The only things I dont like about crossbows is the fact that if you make a bad shot and the deer stays in shooting range you have to re*ock the crossbow giving the deer a better chance to bust you. (personal experience)

And i dont like the idea of having a *ocked crossbow on my back lol (FREAKS ME OUT)

Yea, i actually had a discussion with a friend about the fact that if you miss it is so hard to reload before the deer would get away.
