Does anyone here have any first hand experience with Crohns Disease ?
It seems that my wife is getting it and it is really throwing us for a loop.
After starting the medication, does it actually get better ?

Any help or info would bwe appreciated.

    Thanks, Phil

I have a good friend that has struggled with it for years. His got bad and he had a couple operations. I know he told me when he started eating strictly organic unprocessed foods his symptoms were relieved

I have heard that eating a cup of sauerkraut a day can help reliece symptoms. But I do not know from personal experience.

I know two people with it. One is a regular poster on here that I'm not naming and I know it hits him bad.

The second is a girl a know and she doesn't have it nearly as bad and takes medications for it and it really helps. I've also learned that stress is HUGE part of how bad it effects you.

I have suffered with an issue that is close or similar to crohns since I was in college, it sucks. It took years for me to get serious about trying to do better than just trying to managing it. As mentioned processed foods as well as fast food is a no no. It boils down to keeping a journal of what you eat and noting how your gut reacted to what you ate. Frustrating thing is there are days when you do everything you should and the gut flares again. Anything deep fried or fatty like prime rib will cause issues. I eat the same thing for breakfast and for lunch M-F it helps to be consistent. The worst part get used to pooping in public bathrooms we all hate that but you really don't have a choice, the worst is when you are over to somebodies hose for a family gathering and you get the feeling in your gut that you know you are going to destroy somebodies bathroom. Little tip carry some stick matches it covers the vile stench that comes from food not being digested well and sprayed out your backside much better than air freshener.

I believe the worst is when you have a flare up that lasts for a few days or more and you are bound to pass a lot of acidic stuff and you would swear that the toilet paper you are using is on fire.:eek2:

I had medication a while back but it didn't seem to help.

Here are a couple or so things that seem to help me.

Keep a food log like someone suggested. (I seem to have a problem with tomato sauce.)

Don't over eat. The extra food just passes through and makes things worse.

Eat just two meals a day, breakfast and supper. (This helps me a lot.)

    No snacks.

    Avoid sugar and sweets.

These are some things that have helped me. Might not help everybody.
