Cripple buck story *UPDATE* I have found the sheds from a buck that me and my grandpa call the cripple for the last 3 years. three years ago he was hit by a car, which now doesnt allow him to put down one of his front legs. Also only allowing his antlers to grow no more than 30 inches in the last three years. Again this year he lost both antlers within the week of Christmas just like the last three years. My grandpa has had many opportunities to harvest this buck but didnt have the heart too. In some ways hes a pet coming right into one of the plots right behind the house every winter and losing his sheds. Its amazing how he has made it limping around with the amount of pressure from hunters in the area and number of coyotes. He often disappears off of the trail cameras for weeks at a time so he must have a good hiding spot. I wish I knew how to post the video of him walking, he stands all the way up on his back legs then lunges forward. (first picture is all three years of sheds, second is this year, third picture is as a 3 y/o, fourth is as a 4 y/o, fifth is after losing sheds this year, sixth is w/ antlers this year, seventh is last year) Hes back and smaller than ever! Ignore the time and date the pictures are from this week. 2012
Cool story, Interesting how his rack hasn't developed more over the years. I drive threw Eldorado everyday always see and almost hit a bunch south of there.
Interesting how many posts each year say...I had to kill that crippled deer, it was the right thing to do. It's what every hunter should do. I'm not judging the folks who take that approach however, I'm usually (not always) in the camp of, you take the deer you want. No reason to take a wounded or crippled deer...because it's the right thing to do and that it would never have a chance and that it would never survive, etc.
Wow, you definitely have some history with that buck. Those whitetails are tough animals. Thanks for sharing!
Cool story, thanks for sharing, amazing how well they can survive even with severe injuries. No wolves in your neck of the woods?
Nope im in central WI, but lots of coyotes. Check out one of my older treads of the coyote attack on the deer its also in trail cams. We have a pretty good population of yotes though
He probably hides in them woods behind the gourmet meal. Nice history and I have to agree with if he looks like he will survive let him unless he's big enough for your wall. Then again he is in his prime and that would be a neat little mount to go with them sheds.
