Has anyone ever tried to create cover behind you? My favorite tree doens't have a lot of cover behind it, but it's in an awesome spot. Has anyone ever taken a rachet strap and stuck some branches in behind it? I need to go cut a few lanes, I thought about putting them on the back of the tree when I do.

They used to sell little holders that would clamp the branches to the tree but I bet a ratchet strap would work just fine. I plan on doing something similar to this also but I am going to take whatever clippings I cut climbing up in my stand and just bungie them to the tree.

    branches will die.
Go buy some camo netting and screw it to a frame that you can strap or screw to the tree.
It will give you cover and stiil let you see through it.
I bought a roll on ebay that was 4' wide and 12' long for about $15.
I hung it over 1x4 and mounted them to the tree with galvinized hinges so I could fold them.

You should try putting a dummy in the stand so the deer get used to there being a hunter up there. Then you won't need back cover.

Do you use a climber or a hang-on in your tree?

I use to take a small piece plywood and put two or three pieces of pvc pipe bout 4 inches long and screw it to the plywood and then stick the branches in there worked pretty good but once they die you have to get you a few new ones

Rutin has it! I have one of these systems and have used it in the past. Honestly, its great, but cumbersome to use with a climber. Just something else that needes setup. And, its noisy to setup to boot.

To you all that say the branches will die, who cares. Their still breaking you up some. Bear hunting we do this allot. Most of our stands we put In the same spots as the year before. Some spots we haven't had to re due In 5 years. Twine string goes along way. Allot of our stands are In pines.

My stand is a hang on and i love the spot, it overlooks a spot that deer HAVE to walk through on my property. Only problem is that it's in a tree at the top of a hill, and that doesn't give much for cover (behind). It's a good spot, would just like the extra cover.

I agree with Steve. Use dead branches and just plan on them losing their leaves or needles. Heck all the other leaves will be gone by November anyway. I've done this with success. I actually have used zip ties and that worked well for me.

You can go to any hobby or craft store like hobby lobby and get all the back cover you need for about $15.00 , they have alot of buy one get one free at the store near me and there only about a buck a piece , and the limbs they have with leaves on them are flexable they have all kinds of artificial limbs there and greenery for all seasons , i got some from there and used it , infact i have it up now at one of my new stand location .
