Half an hour ago, I went outside to retrieve something from my truck. After getting it, I took a stroll down the side walk just checking things out. I live on the very north edge of the city. After I got several feet past the walk leading to my front door. When I turned around I saw something approaching me. I thought it was a dog at first but it turned out to be a large red fox! The fox stopped on the side walk about 8 feet away and just stood there looking at me!

I thought, holy crap, that ain't right and then he trotted over the parkway and stopped just on the street. Again, he just stood there looking at me. Almost like he wanted to be petted. It was very calm. I, on the other hand, not so calmly fast stepped it to my front door! I knocked rapidly on the door to get the GF to come to the door and see the fox. As long as she was there, I had her unlock the door........... Something wasn't right with this scene! When I turned around to show her the fox, I noticed that it had followed me part way up the walk to my door!! What the hell!!??:eek:

Then just like that, he turned and trotted back down the side walk, just the way he'd come and was gone.

    How weird was that?

That Is crazy!! Not at all fox like. Something has gotta be wrong with that one. Maybe It's someone's pet though too.

That is odd. Seeing he wasn't aggressive I'd rule out rabid but geesh, any fox I've encountered would turn inside out to vacate the area.

    Odd but cool experience.

I've had some similar encounters years ago I had a big fat grey cat as a pet. He was a outdoor indoor cat and one night I walked up the back steps petted what I thought was him until I walked in the door and saw him. I don't know if the racoon was more in shock then me but he was just sitting there wanting more. Its times like that make me remember the true unpredicatable nature of animals. Sounds like something you will remember for sometime

Maybe someone in the neighborhood has been feeding him and he is alright with human interaction.

I had a yearling doe follow me literally through the woods for about 7-8 minutes. I would stop she would stop. I was even talking to her and she stood there about 15 yards behind me. At one point I managed to get out of sight of her and she came running up behind me again. lol Wild animals do strange things sometimes.

He must have been a little confused. I do believe it's the fox rut right now, so if they are anything like whitetails he may have been in a stupid rut crazed mood.

Watch you leg next time out, Greg.:)

Odd indeed. I think foxes are really neat so that would have been pretty cool to see.
Maybe someone is conditioning them to food & a few near the city limits have lost thier fear?

It was neat to see. I agree that it is possible that someone could be conditioning them. I've seen coyotes here run through my yard. They took off like a normal coyote when they saw me. I was expecting the same from the fox but it didn't work out like that! Made me a bit nervous.
