I shoot this doe at first light from 15 yards away. Im using Montec 5 broad heads and my Monster. She's quartering away ever so slightly that its an almost perfect broadside shot. I let the arrow go and its a perfect hit or so I think. She goes maybe 40 yards before piling up. When I get to her I see something that baffles me. My arrow is sticking straight out of her hind quarter a little more than half way. Filed dressing her was a mess as the arrow traveled all the way through her stomach and intestines. What was really crazy was that her heart was completly blown up no pieces left bigger than a couple square inches. Remember she was quartering away from not too me. So what happened? My arrow hit dead on where I aimed. It then did a full turn inside of her, passed down through her lungs and her inners and out her hind quarter on the opposite side. Crazy right? Anyone else have any strange experiences like this?
Last season my uncle shot a doe with his crossbow. He made a good shot on it, she went about 30 yards and crashed. When he got their he found his broadhead stuck in her hoof. He got the heart, but the bolt turned 90 degrees inside of the deer and stuck in her hoof.
Broad side, 12gage 1oz slug. It was a 100yd shot and when it hit, it made a 90degree turn and busted his gut and everything else. I guess mine hit a rib just right. It apeard it hit right between two and shattered them. I really thought it being a 1oz slug it would hav epassed right through but, it didn't.
well i know for sure it didnt go through the far side, my first thought was that it nicked the inside shoulder blade and deflected, but since you mention it if the arrow was angled in her just right and she did pile up on it. I suppose thats just as good of a possibility as the first.
