Email through cl or publicly giving your cell info?

Or list calls only, no text

Email through CL. Then after I figure out the person isn't a scam I will give my cell number if needed.

Another way to avoid scams is by posting your phone number by text and digits. (two 4 eight - six one 0 - nine 1 eight 4)

Scammers usually use a auto fill system so they are not around if they ever get caught.

The sad part is that people are falling for it.

My brother knows a guy that "bought" a back hoe for $6500. Needless to say, he never received the equipment.

I had a customer come and express mail a package to nigeria, and then return 2 hours later to retrieve the item and said it was a scam and it was thru paypal.

spotting the scams is pretty easy; spotting the jackwagon no-shows is something else. What kind of sick twisted lonely scumbag gets their kicks contacting you, asking you to set aside time for them, and then not showing or even calling?
Happens all the time when I'm selling jeep stuff online. Honestly; about 1/2 of "appointments" I set up are no call/no shows. That's why I try to set up multiple appts. at/about the same time. I've had guys get in a bidding war in my driveway - kind of funny.

That being said, I've also made $9,000 jeep transactions on CL without a hiccup. Luck of the draw.

It's pretty dang easy to spot scams, most often they'll say they're out of the country. Ive never been scammed and sold tons of things. Just make sure the person will meet you and if it's a big ticket item, don't take a check, take cash or transfer. If it's tons of cash meet outside a bank.

I've only bought off CL one time. Got a GoPro camera for $100 but felt like I was doing a drug deal at the grocery store parking lot. I even wrote down the license plate number before approaching the guy. I made him turn on the camera and show me it worked before giving him the money (after he handed me the camera). I saw in the local news where a guy met several women individually to purchase their Louis Vuitton hand bags for $1500 and when they handed him the bag to look at, he took off with them. I'm old school and don't like the Craig's List thing. :D
