I went to a indoor range yesterday to do some practice shooting. It was going good for awhile, then all of a sudden when to shoot and felt pain in my hand. arrow flew to ground and broken in many pieces, I had asked guy what happed they think the nock was cracked when I shot and the arrow released and went into side of hand, it didn't cut deep but sure left a 3" slash mark, mostly just broke skin not much blood. It sure was a scare, at first I thought the arrow broke in my hand. but I think the arrow broke when it hit the ground. Did this ever happen to anyone else? so I guess I need to check my nocks more often.
Glad you weren't hurt badly. It's important to check your nocks, especially if you shoot groups, because of the risk of damaging other arrows. Some pics would have been interesting.
I check my arrows all the time now, the nocks and the shafts. I`ve read about many people who have had arrows blow up on them and its not pretty! Its also possible that the shaft had a crack, or it had been nicked enough to damage it. I give mine the flex test quite frequently.
I saw somebody shoot a bad arrow last year, it blew up and broke his rest. Luckily he didn't get hurt.
I almost thinking about getting a Kevlar shooting glove. it did do something to my rest also. the arrow was a gold tip 5575.
I'm glad your ok bud. I had an arrow blow on me a couple of years back. I was practicing with two blade Broadheads, I normally flex test religiously but for some reason this instance I must not have. Upon release I heard the crack and saw a flash of fletching fly off out of the corner of my eye to the left, I also noticed the front half of my arrow sticking out of the ground 6ft in front of me. Then felt the pain in my wrist and felt sick. I saw blood coming out of my hand just behind the thumb joint. I couldn't believe it had just happened. Luckily for me the arrow broke just in front of the fletching about 1" so the arrow only just penetrated my hand. Sure was a wake up call. Would have been a whole different story had it broken half way along the shaft. I have never missed a flex test and inspection on an arrow since. Rod
