I have seen some coyotes while hunting one weekend. They screwed up the hunt so I didn't see any deer. Just wondering what people do with coyotes when they shoot them. As the hunting season goes on I don't want to lose more hunts to them so need to take care of it someway or another. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
I leave them lay depending where they fall. Shot one a few years back that dropped in its tracks right on the deer trail. Climbed down and tossed it off the side of the hill and climbed back up. I shoot coyotes every opportunity I get, only been two so far but I hope to add to that. Deer are more tolerant of them than one would think, they might get cautious at their scent, especially a doe with fawn(s), but trail cams and even my hunts have shown deer still come through after a coyote does. It's a natural part of their surroundings.
I'd love to have a coyote mount. One of my customers has one, it's pretty sweet. I've never had the opportunity to take one. Don't have a lot in my area. (not as mush as other areas). Knock on wood.
I usually carry a pistol with me when I am scouting but didn't yesterday. I walked up on two coyotes within 10 yards... I sure would have loved to put them out of my misery.
